Bad UX – Swarm / Foursquare Delete Checkin
The user presses the big check-in button in FourSquare and is taken to Swarm, another appTo delete a checkin, the user first needs to tap the checkin in Swarm. Makes sense.Where do you think you need to click now to delete the checkin?
Lots has been said about FourSquare’s decision to split the app into two – one app (FourSquare) for discovery and recommendations, the other (Swarm) as a social heat map for checking in and finding friends nearby.
The constant switching between native apps when users press certain buttons is undoubtedly bad UX, but there’s another action that is very unintuitive in the apps: how to delete a checkin and how to promote ios app
What’s Bad
• Taking a user between two apps without making it obvious within the app’s UX is a definite no-no
• It makes sense that deleting a checkin would be a bit buried, since it’s not such a common user action
• To delete it though, you have to press the SHARE icon
• From there you’ll see “Delete this check-in?” listed among all the share options.
• I’d bet that implementing the delete feature was an afterthought, after the UX had been finalized and fully specced out. As is it takes quite a bit of stumbling before the user figures out how to actually delete their checkin.
