The title of this release is not a direct reference to any one thing. Instead it comes from the ideas and portrayals of dystopian societies in movies like Brazil, and Metropolis. The idea that we are becoming slaves to the machine seems more prescient given the rise of technology in our lives: cell phones, computers, tablets, smart TV's...

This work is an impressionistic audio portrait of what being in a giant machine might be like. Sounds of the machine humming and hissing around us all the time. Even the faint sounds that might be musical have a tension to them.

I wasn't expecting to wake up one morning and create a piece of ambient music. But, that's exactly what happened. Included on this release are two versions of the piece. Floating Through Mist on the Quays is the main piece, and floating drifting ethereal soundscape. Experiment Five is the initial version of Mist, a shorter, slightly more noisy version of the original.

Collaboration with Chinese experimental musician Dickson Dee. It is based on his sounds, a part of 'Blind Man Tales' by Gintas Kraptavicius & found sound by Emmanuel Mieville. The starting point was my poem 'Do You Dream About Me?'. The poem is read by Cheri Gao. It's a dreamy & sometimes noisy piece of 18 minutes in total. An intriguing combination of quiet, loud and found sound. It is very well crafted & i am proud to be part of this magnificent team! Dedicated to the late great noisemaster Zbigniew Karkowski. Part of this track used ZK sounds from the unreleased "reconstruction" album by ZK and Dickson Dee.

Djibril and Faida are back. Two years after the first release Fils d’ Abraham, the French duo Zion Dirty Sound return with a new EP. Based on the track Celebrity Fever already released on their first LP, Dubophonic is re-releasing that same riddim in a new creative approach.

It took a long time for this project to be completed. Main reason, was the many artists involved in this project. The stems of the riddim travelled from France to all around the world, to places near and far. Countries like Cyprus, Italy, Spain, Germany, Poland, Russia, USA and Japan are participating in this project. The riddim was then reworked or dubbed and then sent back to the Zion Dirty Sound headquarters in France for the final mixing and “necessary tweaking”.

The result is a compilation nine new songs, each and every one based on the same “celebrity” riddim, but each and every one completely different in terms of creativity. Starting with Zion Dirty Sound’s 2015 version of Celebrity Fever titled Cumbia fever, the riddim is dubbed by Nadoo (FR), vocalised in English by the dancehall artist Afro D (RUS) and in Japanese by sister Erika Crymson (JAP). Master See’s (USA) cut ina Nyabinghi style is a respect to all african women. Equally conscious are the two versions of Jazzmin Tutum (GER) and Haji Mike (CY), two artists representing the often so neglected sub-genre of Dub Poetry. Peter Chaves (SP) and Michel Melody (POL) team up for a melodica dub version of the riddim. Last but not least we have included the irie sound of Murjah Warriors (ITA) improvising skilfully on the mandolin, perhaps the most creative version of all.

All cuts are composed with lots of love and this can be heard on every tune. But most important is the fact that all tracks flow nicely together. We hope that you will play this ep may times, since each track has a different vibe and you will always find the most appropriate one for each situation.

Closing we would like to give thanks to Michel from the Murjah Warriors for the painting of the cover and the artwork and to Djibril for the special touch on the mixing of the tunes. We hope you will enjoy the tunes and that you will love them as well as we did.

Bozal is a possible extinct Spanish-based creole language that may have been a mixture of Spanish and Congolese, with Portuguese influences. Attestation is insufficient to indicate whether Bozal Spanish was ever a single, coherent or stable language, or if the term merely referred to any idiolect of Spanish that included African elements.

Bozal Spanish was spoken by African slaves in Puerto Rico and Cuba and other areas of South and Central America from the 1600s up until its possible extinction at around 1850. Although Bozal Spanish is extinct as a language, its influence still exists. For instance, many Kongo words are found in the lexicon of the Puerto Rican dialect of Spanish. [wikipedia]

This time around all the mixes also feature new dadala member Roger Sundström of Sweden (aka Erocnet) on guitars, drum kit, vocals, ambient 'scapes and more. Guest contributor Frank Wilke of Germany (aka brass-lines) is featured on three tracks (trumpet and trombone). New dadala member André Darius (France) added bass to one track. The "Hedgerows" sets embody a somewhat more specific vibe than most of dadala's eclectic and eccentric collections, but they still incorporate a wide range of styles and sounds in the process, producing something that might be called avant-garde minimal ambient and acousmatic jazz and free-fusion. Or just hedgerows.

Voyage To Pluto 2015

14th July 2015 marks two big events- the first Netlabel Day will see a wide variety of netlabels celebrate free music and release a range of exclusive tracks on the same day that the dwarf planet Pluto will be visited for the first time as the New Horizons spacecraft makes its closest approach. This provides us with the perfect opportunity to revisit Voyage To Pluto, one of our oldest and most successful tracks. Starting life back in 1997 as a UK trancecore track, the uplifting Dreamworld remix of 2005 proved one of our highlights of the last decade and only narrowly missed out on featuring in our top 20 downloaded tracks chart of all time. For 2015, Psychadelik Pedestrian reduces the tempo to produce two new atmospheric mixes, combining the original spaced out trance sounds with crisp beats, dubstep bass sounds and lush, haunting pads and reverb. The release wouldn't be complete without including the Dreamworld remix which gave the track such exposure in the first place, and of course a remastered version of the original mix as a nod to our frenetic rave roots.

‘BRidGe,’ Nen.T.E.’s latest offering and the first one on Sucu Music out on July 14th, 2015, for the Netlabel Day 2015 special event, is based on two live performances recorded between October 2014 (tracks one to five, as part of a live installation at ‘Scritture Mobili’ – Mobile Writings – an exhibition by Sicilian artist Michele Lambo) and February 2015 (tracks SF one to five).

Both performances were held as a single stream-of-consciousness-like improvisation for electronics, guitar, rhythms and effects, in a way not so dissimilar to what the likes of Tangerine Dream used to do way back in the early seventies, but with a psych-droney-ambient feel that is third millennium to the quick. For this release, however, Nen.T.E. chose to dissect their jams into proper tracks, which on the one side makes the production more accessible to a lot of people, on the other side leaves out nothing of the essence and the beauty of their music.

Off we go with ‘Louder’, the first track on the bill. A low drone introduces Gaetano’s trademark ambient guitar, backed by ominous heartbeat-like bass drum and assorted sounds and effects. The rhythm mounts, and the guitar paints dark nighttime scenes where fliers whizz high across mazy megalopolises above which more than one moon gleam and watch.

‘We Have No Idea’ is based on atonal guitar, sound effects and synth conversations punctuated by something sounding like meteors falling or shuttles taking off, for the future is the time this music comes from. No rhythm. This track is really spacey and ambient from beginning to end.

The strangely-entitled ‘Russolo’s Toy Shop’ takes its inspiration by Art of Noise’s earliest records – a band both Gaetano and Ermanno are very fond of – and, in its turn, refers to Luigi Russolo, the prime mover of Italian Futurist music movement of the same name. Vocal samples create rhythmic patterns like ‘free words’, and Gaetano’s almost-jazzy guitar plays in the midst of swathes of sounds and static. A single bass drum beats to the end, thus adding a sinister dimension to the track, which fades out as peacefully as it began.

White noise and gamelan-like notes upon which airy, ambient, guitar soars with slow, long, placid notes. This is the beginning of ‘Spots’, which continues as if airborne on a magic carpet in a sunny sky. Esay to think to Roger Dean’s airiest paintings while listening to these thin-air notes. Towards the end of the track, dissonant background noises and drones add to the overall atmosphere, until the track sort of decays and dies out leaving a perfumed wake behind.

‘Woke up in Grain’ starts as a dissonant cacophony of sounds and notes, until synth notes ooze in, creating strange, shor-term, melodies, and more hissing and crackling and bubbling leaves one so uncertain as to where one is. Repeated chords and noises like underground dripping, along with long delays and echoes conjure up the idea of a huge cave at the centre of the earth, and that is where we’re left when the track fades out and ends.

‘Scalloped Shades’ begins with two bass synth notes which seem to pay tribute to David Lynch’s ‘Twin Peaks’. More synth step in and build up the kind of melody an artificial intelligence might conceive of in three or four centuries. Sparse notes offset by manipulating effects create an atmosphere shades could really wallow in, until some laid back rhythm begins upon which more notes rebound and ricochet, come and go, like lights that passing cars project on dark walls. On, off. On, off. On, off. On the watch out for what could lurk in the shades.

African-like rhythms introduce ‘Bouncing Eyeball’. Few, echoing, guitar sounds and a series of percussive elements make of this short track a sort of journey in the thick of a jungle, and thus a completely different atmosphere from the ones felt so far, which shows how broad the sound palette of Nen.T.E. is.

Static, glitches and background chords for ‘Did I ever tell You’ take us to yet another nocturnal scene in this musical history that ‘Bridge’ is. There are very subtle changes in the texture of the sounds and the dosing of effects. The music seems to remain the same, but in fact it floats and flows, carried by the subtlest rhythmic patterns you might ever think of, and even glitches sort of tell a story of their own and, other than being simple ornament, are fundamental to the overall architecture of the song.

Alien sounds, noises arriving from outer space and the unquestionable guitar announce us we’ve arrived to ‘Quantistic Oddity.’ Just the time to come to terms to this new point in Nen.T.E.’s time-space port, and electronic drums begin to work, thus leaving the distorted guitar free to have its spacey say. A final crescendo of rhythm and sounds accompanies the guitar harmonics to the end of the oddity and of the track itself.

Although taken from a live performance from February 2015, the last track on the bill, ‘Baobab – Woke up in Grain, Reprise’ can be considered as the part two to ‘Woke up in Grain’ (which comes from the installation of October 2014), because they share the same sound set up, and, up to a point, the same feel. More rhythm here, though, and Africa is again the most plausible place one can think of. Africa and its jungles, more than Africa and its deserts, with congas and metal percussion, and even the swooping sounds of synths sounding sinisterly like snakes slithering, unseen, in the green foliage. When the rhythms subsides, the guitar remains to bid us all goodbye with its usual long, airy, ambient sounds, thus ending the whole release on a pastoral note you could never have expected from such a wonderful band.

An album of abstract ambient music inspired by city life on my home town of Manchester, UK.
Manchester is a busy, cosmopolitan university city. A city that has been the birthplace of so much science, music, art, political struggle and so much more besides, something that we proud Mancunians are not afraid to boast about.
This is not a chillout album, although some will find the abstract soundscapes relaxing, It is not quiet. It is an album of urban noise, slowly churning and changing. An attempt to share the experience of living near the centre of a busy city.
This will not be the last of these albums.

The Mangin mirror's construction consists of a concave (negative meniscus) lens made of crown glass with spherical surfaces of different radii with the reflective coating on the shallower rear surface. The spherical aberration normally produced by the simple spherical mirror surface is canceled out by the opposite spherical aberration produced by the light traveling through the negative lens. Since light passes through the glass twice, the overall system acts like a triplet lens. The Mangin mirror was invented in 1876 by a French military engineer named Colonel Alphonse Mangin as a substitute for the more difficult to manufacture parabolic reflecting mirror for use in searchlights. Since the catadioptric design eliminated most of the off-axis aberration found in parabolic mirrors, Mangin mirrors had the added advantage of producing a nearly true parallel beam of light. They saw use in the late 19th century as reflectors for naval search lights. Its use in military applications was limited, since glass reflectors of any kind were thought to be too fragile and susceptible to enemy gunfire.

Mangin mirrors are used in illumination and image forming optics such as search lights, headlamps, aircraft gunsights and head-mounted displays. Many Catadioptric telescopes use negative lenses with a reflective coating on the back surface that are referred to as "Mangin mirrors", although they are not single-element objectives like the original Mangin, and some, like the Hamiltonian telescope, predate the Mangin's invention by over 60 years. Catadioptric mirrors similar to the Mangin are found in the KlevtsovâCassegrain, ArgunovâCassegrain telescopes, and Ludwig Schupmann's Schupmann medial telescope. They are also used in compact catadioptric photographic lens designs that save on mass since aberration can be corrected by mirror itself. [wikipedia]

Back in February 2013 Yarn Audio released Adaption Disorder by Terrorrythmus, a DJ / producer from Bremen (Germany) who runs the label Latenz. All stems have been made public, too, so everyone was invited to create their own interpretations of the EP. “Adaption Disorder Remixes Pt. 1” is the first of two remix EPs which contains the best uptempo (160+ BPM) edits by three outstanding producers:
The first remix is from Machette, a producer from Niort (France), who just released Flavors EP on Yarn Audio.
With three sent in remixes, Crypticz, a young producer from Weston-super-Mare (UK), has been the most active. He released on labels like Ground Mass Music, Good Street Records and Dynasty Shit before and is working on his EP for Yarn Audio right now.
The third one is Sideswipe, a Philadelphia based producer, who has been working with labels like Philthtrax and Ground Mass Music. Make sure to check his recent release for Modern Ruin!

The brothers Mauro Waro Salina and Federico Bindub Salina started making their first appearances to the public five years ago, as djs in the local scene of the city of Mendoza, Argentina. Soon they started incorporating in their sets their own compositions. This happened in the middle of year 2012, when the two djs started demonstrating and promoting their own music through various events in different venues. Their sound is a mixture of trip hop, reggae and dubstep, presented to the audience in a live dubwise style.

In the late 2012 Waro decided to commit himself totally to the bass and Bindub took the role of the Dub Master. That is how THE DUBBSTYLE was born, a live dub project from Argentina, in the spirit of the new breed of dub acts combining live sounds with the traditional on-stage dubbing. They perform as a duo in Mendoza, Valparaiso (Chile) and Cordoba.

During their live shows there is a very distinct stage presence with them dressed up as monkeys, staying anonymous to the public. Nevertheless, it is the originality of their sound their big asset. Especially during their lives, their sound enters into new dimensions with the addition of many guest musicians on drums, guitar, percussion and horns.

Although quite new in the dub scene, they have already released halfway of 2013 their first EP titled "Blood Fire", a self-release that can be downloaded for free from their own webpage. It is through that release that they were discovered by Dubophonic and were included in the compilation “Explorations in Dub” with the track “Alive”, while they also appeared on the Red Star Martyrs’ EP “Time for tea” serving their own recipe of “Mint tea”.

SIMONA is their second EP, their first on Dubophonic. It includes six brand new tracks by the Argentinian duo, juggling between trip hop beats, dubstep, traditional South America melodies and reggae, all presented in their own original dubwise style. We have included also an unreleased cut of “Bloodfire”, specially reconstructed for this release, featuring Enzo Furiasse on the live trombone, properly dubbed and spaced out. With these words said, please welcome the new heavyweight dub sound from Mendoza!

There are typically 40 million bacterial cells in a gram of soil and a million bacterial cells in a millilitre of fresh water. There are approximately 5×1030 bacteria on Earth, forming a biomass which exceeds that of all plants and animals. Bacteria are vital in recycling nutrients, with many of the stages in nutrient cycles dependent on these organisms, such as the fixation of nitrogen from the atmosphere and putrefaction. In the biological communities surrounding hydrothermal vents and cold seeps, bacteria provide the nutrients needed to sustain life by converting dissolved compounds such as hydrogen sulphide and methane to energy. On 17 March 2013, researchers reported data that suggested bacterial life forms thrive in the Mariana Trench, which with a depth of up to 11 kilometres is the deepest part of the Earth’s oceans. Other researchers reported related studies that microbes thrive inside rocks up to 580 metres below the sea floor under 2.6 kilometres of ocean off the coast of the northwestern United States.
