Scott Lawlor first approached me via Twitter about this release saying “I’ve got a rather minimal album in mind called Experiments in Isolation.” I was intrigued. He submitted an epic, three CD-length challenging release. When Scott says he has a “minimal album” he isn’t referring to the scope, size or the concept of a project. Even the single track that comprises Experiments In Isolation One is 78 minutes long!

What is challenging about Experiments In Isolation is that the concept is somewhat abstract. Scott is digging into the realm of sensory deprivation (also known as perceptual isolation) studies: an area of psychology which is also used as therapy in alternative medicines.

Sensory deprivation is an interesting and controversial subject. Some psychological studies have shown there are benefits to using sensory deprivation within limited time frames, while other studies have shown there are severe negative effects that can occur when the human mind and body are isolated from external stimuli.

On this first part of the series, Scott Takes on the broad concept of this subject: *Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy* or REST as it is commonly known. REST is the name given to several different
treatments that have been used in studies over the last 50 years. The concept for these sensory deprivation based therapies were derived originally for military use in interrogating prisoners.

Liber Alles. A project initiated by Suavas Lewy, a musician from Łódź (Poland), improviser, sound activist and socio-cultural animator. The main theme of the project is an undetermined meeting with improvising musicians from Eastern European countries. Countries trapped in between of self-governance systems and the dream of full democracy. Countries endangered by the hegemony of monarchic Russia an its “veiled” ambition of unification and annexation of former Soviet republics.

Liber Alles shall be a sphere in which free, equal sounds will be exchanged. No moderation and governing will be needed and the music matter created by the musicians will depend solely on sensitivity, consciousness and listening to one another. The tone present in the improvisation created by musicians rooted in multicultural Slavic atmosphere will be definitely an extremely experimental aspect.

Sounds of the Universe, unite!

With these four tracks, Tuomo experimented with even longer form than on the Kaiut tracks. As result, each of these tracks - dubbed 'monoliths' by Tuomo - clocks between 22 and 28 minutes.

DR’s first release for CerebralAudio, Synchronisation mit einem Stück Zitrone, is a nice twist on the ambient style of work that we’re familiar with. DR has taken the task of creating something a bit different to heart, and it comes out in this release.

While on the surface this is a light, minimal ambient drone music, there is a bit more meat to the fruit. You just have to peel back to top layer and taste the sweet and tangy nectar below with your ears.

Listening with headphones or earbuds is highly recommended for this recording… The real depth of the sound is revealed better with a close listening.

One of two new EPs for Netlabel Day 2016, this release features a trilogy of new electro house tunes from Beat Doctor, returning after a five year hiatus. Shot In The Dark leads the EP with a bouncy, uplifting bassline, rippling arpeggios and an echoing vocal snippet. Remote Control System has a similar echoing vocal sample but takes a more minimal approach with a relentless computerized bassline and bleepy sounds. Clockwatchers completes the trilogy with pumping house rhythms and old school rave stabs, harking back to the early days of Toucan as a UK rave label.

Unprovoked Attack begins with chilled uplifting pads before launching into trip-hop breaks, with a distorted, guitar-esque synth adding the melody set to a deep rumbling bassline. Drones combines tribal breaks with deep sub-bass and a hypnotic echoing piano line. Naked Flames completes the trio with a similar deep bassline and distorted riff, but with more melodies courtesy of a catchy piano riff.

Music For Corridors magnificently renders that sense of waiting. Each track infact shows the multifaceted aspects of a waiting in a hospital corridor, whether it is you waiting for your own fate or one of your loved ones is.

A waiting which sometime is trustful, powerless, serene, hopeless, heroic, hopeful. It's a music that's plenty of intense feeling and emotion, it's a music that empowers the listener to understand further dimensions starting from lucidly observating details, common objects, views, as the songs' titles suggest.

The album is mainly piano based, melody and harmony of each track develops accompained with light synths sounds and textures, quirky noises and low distant voices. The sensation is just like if our thoughts were focused on their own, barely distracted by what comes around.

CerebralAudio is proud to present it's first ever Netlabel Day Release: Into The Rift: Volume One!

Several months ago we put out a call to the netlabel community for submissions for a new compilation. And, we were stunned by the number of people and group that chose to support this effort. Initially, we hoped to create a solid, single-disc length release (about an hour in length). However, this release grew and grew until it became a three disc (3.5 hours) length release. By then end of the submissions thirty artists form around the world submitted works for Into The Rift: Volume One, and have made it into a diverse and eclectic listening experience.

About Into The Rift: Volume One

The initial concept was to allow artists to explore areas of their work that they hadn't explored before... And quite a few did just that. In the process the release itself has become an exploration of relating different styles of music to each other. It became an exercise in taking experimental, classical, ambient, Berlin School electronic, rock, and techno / house music and other styles, and seeing how they could play off each other. This diversity makes for a unique and interesting listening experience.

Urge displays another side of Cousin Silas's creative potency: the ability to create dark, abstract sounds for brooding, meditative scenarios. It is a peek inside the dark conflicts of nature and the dark side of the nature of humanity. Conflicts that arise from seasonal change, to conflicts we face for our actions, and even the connection between the conflicts of nature and the state of humanity.

It seems that there is a lot of darkness around the world. Many countries are struggling with social or political darkness. While Mr. Hughes might not address these topics directly, his music seems fitting to the current moods of the world. This release seems to channeled some of that darkness into these works (at least to my ears). And yet, even with all the darkness that permeates these pieces, there is the occasional glimpses of light through the clouds.

For this release, Aerologic and Notch present an epic house workout with a throbbing bouncy bassline, hypnotic uplifting pads and a haunting piano break in the middle, reaching a crescendo with hard acidic stabs, strings and a bleepy trance influenced riff. A chillout mix is also provided by Psychadelik Pedestrian, which combines the pads and melodies from the original with a half speed, chilled groove.

In this EP we revisit Psychadelik Pedestrian's album Fifteen, released last year, with three new remixes from Notch and Blastculture. Taking the helm for Sleep Tight, Blastculture blends deep house bass, hypnotic tribal rhythms and smooth pads with the harder distorted stabs from the original track for Sergio's Last Remix. Upping the tempo, Blastculture adds frenetic hard tech beats and plenty of effects for his Steady State Remix of Hit The Deck. Notch keeps to the original melodies with his remix of Sleep Tight, adding house beats and punchy organ hits.

There are sometimes exceptions, Adriano Mirabile makes here one, and explores new territories, headfirst, proving that he can feel at home also breaking the schemes. This was the homework. The limitations make the music, and in this case, avoiding the standards was the exercise. Preparing the material for Wondermachine has been a long process; the scope of the project has also evolved during its realisation. The result is a blend of acoustic, electronics, jazz, ambient and dancefloor funk.

Guests, remixers, mastering engineer, graphic designer know each other since years, so it is also a kind of family affair.

The Ides of March brings a new member to dadala: Paul Mimlitsch of Colorado (US), a multi-instrumentalist improviser who dives into the creative process “without intent” (which resonates nicely with dadala’s ways!). Paul contributes contrabass and bass clarinets, electronics and a metal object to this album (including overdubs performed to dadala mixes-in-progress, and already existing recordings assimilated by dadala), joining core members Erocnet (aka Roger Sundström, from Sweden: guitars, drum kit, keyboard, ukulele) and Loopy C (aka Chris R. Gibson of the US: programming/coding/processing: rhythmic/percussive concoctions, soundscapes, virtual improvisations, etc.). A trombone recording from Frank Wilke of Germany is also featured on one track. The album achieves a special electro-acoustic atmosphere that resists description by genre and especially spotlights the instrumental talents and creative imagination of Mimlitsch and Erocnet.

Base Electron is the creative incarnation of Australian electronic music producer Sterioevo,
Sympathetic Resonance is the outcome.
Re-framing reality with a leap of faith, Sterioevo escaped the squirrel cage. Allowing for the devotion of
total attention and focus to the development of this splendorous creative endeavour.
After me than 15 years learning the art and craft of making electronic music, time and space was
manifested to draw a metaphysical line in the sand and produce a body of work for release.
The result is a 10 track album exploring the psychedelic and experimental side of down tempo chill,
with a definitive and signature liquified and heavily effected sound.
Made with the most magic ingredients - love, passion, dedication and commitment, merged with a full
tilt exploration of sound design. All underpinned by a belief that we have the capacity to enhance each
others existence.
Musically, each track on “Sympathetic Resonance” explores a unique space in the multiverse,
encouraging enhanced perception, awareness and consciousness through aural excitement, hand
crafted with a resolute determination.
Technically, the deliverance of this work of art is a delicate balance between live manipulation of synthesis
and “rolling up the sleeves” getting busy with micro editing. This electron is hopeful of stirring some atoms in the listener, awakening a positive vibrational experience.
Base Electron is super excited to be releasing on Australian label Little Rascal Records.

“One Parsec Wide Pocket” is Gaetano Fontanazza’s third release on Sucu Music.

Ambient guitar maestro presents us with a new series of tracks which are the perfect vehicle to explore sonic landscapes of different nature.

Surprisingly enough, the album kicks off with “Back into my Room,” a short piece for looping noises and concrete sounds, scratches, bleeps and crackles.

“August Never Ending” sets the scene with sparse notes and chords that create a gentle feeling of suspension and displacement. The melody the guitar paints ripples like wavelets on the surface of a pond, and it is a relief from the somewhat claustrophobic atmosphere of the opening intro.

“Eleven” is a track which was composed and recorded on 11th November 2011 (11.11.11) foa a livelooping compilation on palindrome dates. It lasts around eleven minutes and is based on a D 11th chord. The feeling is very chilled out and relaxed, Fontanazza weaves his trademark sonic carpets we can glide on. Just a few notes, elongating, reverberating, echoing in a minimal cosmic symphony for guitar solo. Crickety, morse-code-like glitches step in at about the middle of the track, and here new sounds appear, caught on Moebius-strip loops which serve as a background for gentle acoustic guitar melodies and scat whistling that take the track to its end.

“Mellowing Tides” is a tell-tale title, in that the mood of this track is precisely what its titles hints at. Think of the slow breathing of the sea, water ebbing and flowing under the silent direction of the moon above. Never-ending chords and gull-like notes, maybe waiting for some ghost ship to float on the horizon with its load of secrets and past.

“Gaining Altitude” was originally released in the compilation “Silas and Friends, vol.4” (WAAG, 2015). Here Fontanazza’s guitar creates the aural illusion of being atop a high mountain, with the whole world glinting below. Looping sounds and airy guitar at their best. There could be balloons flying by, or a silent glider across the sky. Only silence, and these notes, which are of the thin air and the light and the wind.

“Sky River” is a track built on noises and effects, counterpointed by guitar harmonics and prolonged delays. A slightly disturbing short track which counterbalances all the earlier gentleness experienced so far.

The title track takes us back again on Fontanazza’s spacey ambient paths, light again, a sublime sense of vastness again, with some cosmic soloing reminiscent of the best vintage psychedelia.

“Trees on Mars” The title refers to an optical illusion in a photograph of the polar surface on Mars, where some mushroom-shaped, dark green formations can be seen which could be mistaken for alien trees but in fact are methane formations on the dry ice surface. Accordingly, this track really sounds otherworldly, entirely based on minimal, heavily effected chords that need no other ornament to create a little sonic jewel.

“Breakpoint” resumes Fontanazza’s vision of endless spaces where nothing but sound and peace seems to exist. This is the sound we can experience just a second before going out of the atmosphere and into the silent black of the universe. This is the sound the interstellar void would have if only sound were possible in the cosmos.

“The Last Hour” is the closing track. The title doesn’t refer to death approaching but to the last hour of light before sunset. The undertow sound in the background was recorded on a beach right at this moment of the day, a moment of passage which, just like all moments of passage do, merges all times into no-time and all dimensions into no-dimension, thus making everything possible.
