Enjoy the BeatThe best way to describe this album is to start saying what it is not. It’s not Techno, it’s not Electronic, it’s neither a Stratocaster nor a Stradivari, it’s not a pasta with, but not even a pasta without sauce, with certainty it’s neither God nor Buddha nor Hitler and for sure not Pope Wojtyla, it’s not Tom Cruise but also not Shakespeare and, please, let it never be Rafaella Carrà. It’s neither right wing nor left wing, doesn’t come from the south nor from the north, may be slightly from east, but for sure not from the west. In summa, it’s not your mummy that wakes you up with morning light nor the triple sandwich with ham you eat around the corner after school. It is simply a story of how I managed to write these lines finishing my last bag of Cheese Haze. So sit down on the couch, turn the lights out, and let the show begin, as this a comedy of life and art and you are its watchers!Enjoy the beatTrack list:1. Once upon a time2. Le Grand Tour3. May 2010 15:06:23 +0200
released on Astor Bell by Socket Science

released on Astor Bell by Socket Science
Compared to the more playful debut, Socket Science slows things down on the follow up Ephedra. Three dark, distorted and long jams that focus on the lower frequencies yet remain true to the core idea, being Robot Music with Soul.
It's easy to envision lined up drones doing their monotonic labour in dirty factories. However, these pieces of music also carry the reverberation of their children playing on the school yard across the street, as well as the moans and squeaks of the community elders in need of an oil tin refreshment. Everyone's invited, everyone plays a part.
And not to forget; all these influences and emotions are packed upon a quite steady and bouncy beat. Do your club a favor and spin it.

While off on skirmishes of varying importance, our thoughts were never far from greasing up the gears and getting the pistons pumping once again.Well, wait no longer, for we bring you a deadly selection of remixes from fellow freaky-music conspirators. We have some fresh-out-the-factory cybernetic organisms joining us, as well as dusting off a few of the trusty old androids, all taking their various peripherals to task on a few gems from the Alt vault. It gives us great pleasure to welcome Spatial to the fold. After positively busting onto the wider dubstep radar at the end of 2008, his Infrasonics imprint has been plotted on a course directly into the heart of the future, fusing jagged, minimal two-step rhythms with meaty chunks of bass and a healthy nod of respect to the old-skool. Everything on his label is an essential purchase (if you're lucky enough to still find them in stock), and we're very chuffed to present his bumping and grinding remix of Erdbeerschnitzel's 'Drehundangelpunk'.Output from J-Lab is never common enough for our liking, and no doubt you'll agree when you hear his re-working of the early Alt classic 'Remember' (by the artist formerly known as Tone Def). All the elements are in place that you would expect from a J-Lab jam, with moody synths aplenty bubbling over a stripped electro-tinged groove, only to crumble apart at the midway point and then erupt in a flourish of Motor City proportions. More epic than a Tolkein trilogy.Storlon is once again back in the saddle, this time treating us to two stunning remixes. His previous offerings for our online escapades have been tripped-out experiments with only the ghost of techno haunting the digital debris of his music, but here the man from Switzerland heads straight for the floor (albeit the rather wonky floor with holes that lead down to the cellar and the like). Both his remix of 'Remember' and his tackling of 'Drehundangelpunk' display the same wizardry for sound design that made his Drill of Silver Fir EP so engrossing, but there is a much more rigid groove propelling everything along. Still the same old Storlon, just a little bit funkier.Much like what happened with Erdbeerschnitzel, we once again stumbled upon a producer whose sound seemed to be saying nothing but 'alt...alt...alt...alt' over a 4/4 kick. As you know our criteria for this label is anything that sounds exactly like that (we don't know what you hear when you listen to Alt releases but that's all we get) and Halfman Halfmattress ticked that one box perfectly. His particular brand of 'alt...alt...alt...alt' uses heaps of micro-sampling in the time honoured tradition of producers like Ark, unleashing flurries of jazzy snippets that fall perfectly on that off-beat groove. Both 'I Dunno' and 'Drehundangelpunk' are two twisted butt-quaking bombs that sound so Alt they could almost be saying just 'alt...alt...alt...alt'. Fortunately they aren't quite so we can release them, but only just.So dig in, fill your boots and get some shimmying going on in your life - you don't need to be wireless to have a good time.
License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9744
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9744

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/[ALTF008]+ALTRAMIX1000/9744
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/alt_recordings/1372
[ALTF006] Android Lubricated Tech-Funkhttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/[ALTF006]+Android+Lubricated+Tech-Funk/9743Tue, 25 May 2010 13:08:58 +0200
released on alt recordings by J-Lab

released on alt recordings by J-Lab
After just over a year of putting out EPs on Alt, we are very pleased to present the first full length compilation, Android Lubricated Tech-Funk. The collection of tracks represents everything Alt is about, from deep experimental weirdness to peak-time dancefloor business. There are tracks on offer from nearly all the artists we have released since the beginning, and we are very pleased to welcome some new faces. You'll recognise some of them, and may have never heard of others, but they all share the same twisted vision for where house, techno, electronica (and any other form of music) can go in the future.Leif kicks things off with the mighty 'Pushing Hands', a loosely knitted bongo freakout that keeps the lounge-jazz vibe he is known for, but pushes his handling of percussion to a new level. Tone Def's remix of Daniel Schneider's 'Miesekatze' track takes a very different route, stripping everything back to it's barest elements, with a trademark grooving beast of a bassline propelling the beat along. New to Alt, Le Jockey turns the pace up with a delightfully mental track full of pulsating techno rhythm, choppy micro-samples and a healthy dose of humour. Donk Boys take their sound deeper than usual on 'Avgrundens Harskare' (which means "lord of the abyss" apparently) for a sinister track rich in detail and melody.Tone Def's latest offering is pure four to the floor funk, all nagging hi-hats and quirky ticks riding over a granite bottom end. Tom Ellis returns to the Alt fold with a textbook bumping, grinding house cut full of tricksy rhythms and that unmistakable Trimsound funk. Just when you thought it was safe on the floor, Daniel Schneider throws a hefty curveball in the shape of 'Ask That Bitch' that rains down gallons of beautifully choreographed sounds. J-Lab pulls things back with 'Somewhere', carrying that trademark melodic moodiness that permeates his tracks before blossoming into an electro-flecked party monster. Closing down the party, Storlon's penchant for trippy soundscapes goes to the next level on 'Oenologia', possessing an immense level of sound design.
License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9743
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9743

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/[ALTF006]+Android+Lubricated+Tech-Funk/9743
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/alt_recordings/1372
Drill Of Silver Fir EP (ALTF004)http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Drill+Of+Silver+Fir+EP+(ALTF004)/9742Tue, 25 May 2010 12:56:26 +0200
released on alt recordings by Storlon

released on alt recordings by Storlon
We are very pleased to present the latest release on Alt, from Swiss producer Storlon. The 'Drill of Silver Fir' EP continues the minimal aesthetic carried by our first three collections, but pushes the experimental tendencies further towards the outer limits of 4/4 music. Drawing on the free party and techno happenings in Geneva, Storlon's early encounters with the likes of Jeff Mills, Basic Channel, Cristian Vogel and the Warp stable all forged a passion for electronic music deep within, but it wasn't until escaping the frenetic pace of the city's party scene for the mountains of his youth that he moulded this passion into his own productions. Listening to the tracks he has given us you can hear an organic heart throbbing at the core, woven into the layers of processed sounds, where the micro-house blueprint marries itself to the soul of jazz. Suffice it to say we are impressed and you will be too. Label boss Tone Def has turned out a killer remix, taking the framework of the original and honing it for dancefloor consumption.Enjoy.
License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9742
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9742

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Drill+Of+Silver+Fir+EP+(ALTF004)/9742
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/alt_recordings/1372
Snorkel Quintethttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Snorkel+Quintet/9740Mon, 24 May 2010 18:07:30 +0200
released on suRRism-Phonoethics by Snorkel Quintet

released on suRRism-Phonoethics by Snorkel Quintet

Every song is dedicated to a specific place in the area of the Tisza, which falls into Dunav, the Danube, one of the biggest rivers in Eastern Europe.Nature elements inspired most of the album: Deliblatska Pescara is the largest sandy terrain in Europe once part of a vast prehistoric desert, Fruska Gora is a beautiful mountain, while Ledinci and Jezera are two lakes located in Serbia. The musical narrative of this album develops slowly through different sound layers: pure and delicate melodies, distant voices, guitar notes, drones, microtonal sound-waves and field recordings. The evocative power of Letna's music reaches high levels exemplified by the intense momentum of 'White City', a song dedicated to Belgrade. The emotive atmosphere of songs like 'Deliblatska Pescara' and 'Crossing the Bridge (Novisad)' is present throughout the album. Field recordings feature in every song which guide the listener into a continuum of perfectly designed soundscapes.Tisza meets Dunav is a progession of Letna's musical research which helps us understand his poetry and the deep meanings hidden behind his abstract creations.
Tags:AMBIENT, ELECTRONIC, DOWNTEMPO,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9739
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9739

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Tisza+meets+Dunav/9739
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
In the Sudden Distancehttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/In+the+Sudden+Distance/9738Mon, 24 May 2010 15:44:46 +0200
released on zymogen by Jimmy Behan

released on zymogen by Jimmy Behan
Jimmy Behan released his debut album 'Days Are What We Live In' in 2004 before taking time out to study for a Masters in Music & Media Technologies from Trinity College, where his thesis focused on the compositional possibilities of creative sampling techniques.Currently, his work focuses on finding emotional connections between the physicality of sounds and their contexts. The physical characteristics of sounds (dynamics, texture and space) are explored via a range of processes before determining the emotional tone of a piece. The 'In the Sudden Distance EP' attempts to capture that moment when the present suddenly becomes the past, rendering the passing of time as a sudden shift in perspective. Recorded around the time of a relocation to his home town after 16 years, it revolves around themes of change, memory and redemption. With this concept work Jimmy brings Zymogen to a higher level in the exploration of electronic soundscapes.
Tags:EXPERIMENTAL, ELECTRONIC, ABSTRACT,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9738
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9738

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/In+the+Sudden+Distance/9738
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Sclerosishttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Sclerosis/9737Mon, 24 May 2010 15:44:20 +0200
released on zymogen by con_cetta

released on zymogen by con_cetta
con_cetta is the first Italian artist on Zymogen, and we're extremely glad to have such a great musician representing the label's home country. Giuseppe, con_cetta's real name, is from Sicily but now lives in Milan, which is the leading commercial and financial center of Northwestern Italy.Sclerosis is his debut under this moniker and could be seen as Giuseppe's attempt at escaping the chaos of the industrial metropolis, generally seen as lacking the color and poetry of everyday life. This release is full of passion while the contrast between the two extremes is clearly audible and molded into the sound.Giuseppe explores many different languages in the field of electronic music, but his composition process is structured in a particular way. He begins with samples taken from different recording sessions and then processes every sound using Gleetchlab, a software programmed by Tobor Experiment, which, with its very intuitive interface, gives Giuseppe all the possibilities to express his feelings and imagination in a digital format. The first track '2.53' slowly evolves from hypnotic samples into a string symphony over white noise pulses. 'Hexagram', features a collaboration with Nicola Ferloni, a guitarist from the indie band 'Go Down Moses', whose guitar is dismantled through processing, resulting in something completely different. Another significant track, 'Calendaexl', is a great example of composition with different layers which slowly appear on the surface.Sclerosis is only con_cetta's first step in musical research, but in June 2008 the well known British label Moteer will release his debut album, entitled Micro. Keep your eyes peeled for this name.
Tags:EXPERIMENTAL, AMBIENT, ELECTRONIC, ABSTRACT,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9737
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9737

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Sclerosis/9737
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Sand and Loamhttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Sand+and+Loam/9735Mon, 24 May 2010 15:43:37 +0200
released on zymogen by Porcelain in the Backpack

released on zymogen by Porcelain in the Backpack
Porcelain in the backpack is Marcus Held from Leipzig, Germany, and we are glad to release 'Sand and Loam', a six track ep, which is his very first release.Marcus makes a very special blend of electronic music, combining strange instruments, field recordings, and hyper processed sounds. However, what we feel is most important about his music is the emotional emphasis placed in each of his tracks, regardless of the sonorous differences between them. His particular approach to making music involves taking sounds from an array of sources, particularly acoustic instruments. The composition process which follows involves a kind of granular synthesis, whereby he creates a unique flow of organic and nearly tangible sound. Tracks like 'The Burrowbuilder Comes Home' and 'The Branch was High and the Way was Long' are perfect examples of this, as melodies are lost in waves of overlapping sound.Sand and loam is another moving piece of work, both evocative and haunting. Each track seems to tell a nostalgic story of the past, with some deep seeded melancholic significance, that the listener is never meant to let go of or forget.
Tags:EXPERIMENTAL, AMBIENT, ELECTRONIC, ABSTRACT,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9735
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9735

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Sand+and+Loam/9735
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
cesurahttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/cesura/9734Mon, 24 May 2010 15:41:37 +0200
released on zymogen by marihiko hara

released on zymogen by marihiko hara
Zymogen celebrates its second anniversary with a release composed by Marihiko Hara, from Kyoto, Japan. Here we have one of the most interesting young Japanese producers to date, also a member of the experimental-pop collective,Rimacona-Lab.Cesura, Hara's debut album, emits melodies that have been compressed into subtle layers and thin sound-scapes.The piano is his trademark, and when coupled with the other acoustic instruments he employs, we get digital samples that float endlessly via loops and high frequencies throughout the entire album, as in 'Sleep', 'Cesura', and 'Konstellation'.Silence is the other vitally important element of 'Cesura'. It is often balanced with drones and white noise (as in 'Vision', 'Spectrum', 'Consonance', and 'Ripple') and is treated as an active part of the sound Hara makes. It serves as the basic color of the canvas, which he slowly fills with thin colored stokes. On the final track, entitled 'modena', Hara collaborates with Natsuko Yanagimoto: a vocalist and second half of the experimental-pop duo, Rimacona. Here, an over-processed voice is surrounded by flickering sounds, which resonate intimate tones and an overall emotive atmosphere.Marihiko Hara designs minimal sound sculptures with poetry and soul, gives weight to pauses, and breaths life into silences and melodies without emphasis.Cesura is such poetry.
Tags:AMBIENT, ELECTRONIC,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9734
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9734

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/cesura/9734
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Sky Diary Editshttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Sky+Diary+Edits/9733Mon, 24 May 2010 15:41:13 +0200
released on zymogen by Heezen

released on zymogen by Heezen
Everything started when Sky Diaries, the original EP by young fellow Fred Baty a.k.a.Crepusculum, was released at 12rec. in December 2006. It was a five song EP comprised solely of incredible acoustic music, composed with a guitar and some decent electronic enhancements. His music left me completely stunned and I immediately thought that the pureness of Fred's guitar-play would be a fantastic inspiration in the hands of electronic musicians. From both Zymogen and 12rec., several names came up. We were lucky enough to receive enthusiastic responses from both sides as well as from artists of other great labels such as EKO, Rain Music, Autoplate,Standard Klik Music and Nexsound. In the end there were so many great tracks that we decided to assemble two different playlists; one for the digital EP, downloadable for free on Zymogen, and one for the amazing handmade CDr-LP available at the 12rec. webshop, both with exclusive remixes and artwork. Many artists took part in the project, adding their personal touch to every single Crepusculum track. These include Tupolev bassist and sound-artist Alexandr Vatagin, Darren McClure, Engine7, Emil Klotzsch & Raimund Sudermann, Bluermutt, Letna, Alexandre Navarro, Ibakusha, The Love Songs, Heezen, Koutaro Fukui, GoGooo and the Netaudio legend Marsen Jules who contributed different remixes for both the album and the EP.What is particularly incredible about Sky Diary Edits is how the different interpretations of the same source fit together. Every musician deconstructed Fred's guitar as if to get closer to the original melancholia of his melodies. This is particularly evident in pieces by Darren McClure, Klotzsch & Sudermann, Letna and GoGooo. Certain musicians chose to completely turn the tracks inside out in order to give a new feel such as Heezen and Bluermutt. The album serves as a vital constituent of the whole as it completes the EP with some of the best remixes of the entire project, namely by Klotzsch & Sudermann, Koutaro Fukui, The Love Songs and GoGooo… absolutely unmissable!
Tags:EXPERIMENTAL, AMBIENT, ELECTRONIC, DOWNTEMPO,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9733
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9733

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Sky+Diary+Edits/9733
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Genki Vol. Ihttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Genki+Vol.+I/9732Mon, 24 May 2010 15:37:08 +0200
released on zymogen by Lezrod

released on zymogen by Lezrod
David Velez is better known as Lezrod and has released a couple of releases under this moniker on both Zymogen and Test Tube. His latest work Genki consists of two parts which are simultaneously and separately released on both Zymogen and TestTube as a collaboration between both net labels. The title Genki is derived from the contraction of two words:- Gene, which answers.com describes as "hereditary unit consisting of a sequence of DNA that occupies a specific location on a chromosome and determines a particular characteristic in an organism"- Ki, which refers to the Kanji symbol for "spirit, mood". In a wider sense it also stands for the concept originating from traditional Chinese culture "to be part of every living thing that exists, as a kind of 'life force' or 'spiritual energy'"Concerning new musical achievements Genki I and II are not only a great step forward compared to earlier releases, both volumes also mark a transition to a new period in David Velez' life, from quitting his job in Bogota, Colombia for working full time on his music to moving to Queens, NY (in the northeast of the United States) with a new job in an unfamiliar environment and a different culture.Vol. I, published on Zymogen, is connected with his previous releases on this label, such as the Qwartz nominated "Retorno a la Nada" and the amazing concept album "Data Transfer". As Lezrod, David continues to consider melody as an important element of his composition, but the research of it has became even deeper than in his previous works.During his new life in Nyc David has been in search of silence for long time and these tracks represent the research of it through beautiful sonic layers.
Tags:EXPERIMENTAL, AMBIENT, ELECTRONIC, DRONE, ABSTRACT, NON-MUSIC,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9732
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9732

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Genki+Vol.+I/9732
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Miscellaneous Goodshttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Miscellaneous+Goods/9731Mon, 24 May 2010 15:36:45 +0200
released on zymogen by Takeshi Nakamura

released on zymogen by Takeshi Nakamura
After one year of silence Takeshi Nakamura, one of our top contributors, returns with a brand new album, again taking us to the fringes of electronic music. "Miscellaneous Goods" is a ten track album where Nakamura draws on new inspiration, binding abstract elements to form compositions that cross the thin line standing between sound and noise. Each track from this album has a cerebral birthplace, emerging as abstract figures which Takeshi has tried to fix into such titles as, Gap, Collapse, Degeneration, Dining Table, Array. The sound must be contemplated and explored, like standing in front of a carved monolith of vibrations. Contemplation is the keyword for approaching Takeshi's music, like having a passive aural experience but standing in the fields of the audible, of music. Just like the great sound artists, such as Ryoji Ikeda or Autechre are still doing, Takeshi Nakamura succeeds in translating personal feelings into pure digital data. However, the feelings translated in this album are at times troublesome and oppressive. Here you won't find lovely melodies, solar soundscapes, nor easy beats. Nakamura's inspiration stands somewhere else and that's why Miscellaneous Goods is tough, complex, and needs time in order to be fully understood.
Tags:IDM, EXPERIMENTAL, AMBIENT, ELECTRONIC, ABSTRACT,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9731
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9731

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Miscellaneous+Goods/9731
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Baker's Bloodhttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Baker's+Blood/9730Mon, 24 May 2010 15:36:35 +0200
released on zymogen by ten and tracer

released on zymogen by ten and tracer
"Baker's Blood" is the latest offering by Ten and Tracer, a renowned name in the American electronic music scene. Following a long period of silence, he produced one of the most exciting EPs of 2005, entitled "In Such a Fix to be so Fertile", the first release published by the excellentRope Swing Cities netlabel. This release surprised most people who had been familiar with Jonathan's previous work, as something unusual had occurred during its conception. Namely, processed beats and organic sounds had been moulded together to form a dark and deep aural experience; a significant shift from his previous warm and melodic compositions. In the 2006, the people at Rope Swing Cities were fortunate enough to be able to release another of Jonathan's fine productions, entitled "Vinculum"; this time inspired by different feelings, but composed with the same previously inspired elements. Now it's time for "Baker's Blood" and we feel very glad to have in our 'virtual hands' a four track representation of Jonathan's current sound and evolution since "In Such a Fix to be so Fertile". Lets just say that any attempt at describing it would not do it justice, as you will find radically different sounds blended together in an impressive manner: tribal percussion, glitch aesthetics, field recording, found sounds. These are musical concepts that are very far one from one another, but in these tracks there are eloquent links to make them work and communicate. The real beauty lies in fine details, and you should listen to each track carefully in order to explore every pattern, sample, beat, gradient, and melody, as something really special happens there. It is creative expression its best!
Tags:IDM, EXPERIMENTAL, GLITCH, ELECTRONIC, FIELD RECORDING, NON-MUSIC,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9730
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9730

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Baker's+Blood/9730
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Monoclinehttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Monocline/9729Mon, 24 May 2010 15:36:11 +0200
released on zymogen by Stephen Walter

released on zymogen by Stephen Walter
Stephen Walter isn't a new name for zymogen listeners as we already heard his collaboration with David Velez aka Lezrod on Data Transfer (zym007). In that track ("Ramute") there were evident recalls of his past works, in fact Stephen (under the monicker SW) had produced two idm gems for Retropublik some years ago, but since then nothing came out...until Monocline, a complete change of direction. This album has a solid concept behind it, explained by the title; Monocline is a term to indicate "a geologic structure in which all layers are inclined in the same direction".These tracks could be interpreted as these different layers which match up in the monocline fold...composed with different simple elements, at last, are a totality of abstract substance.Music floats as a "unicum" and simply shifts, track after track, into various basic components: melody, deep silences, found sounds and pure sine waves."Newheart", "Before your Eyes" and "Rising" are emotive tracks built on warm pads moving through melodies in a complete absence of rhythm, very simple formula though, but the care which Stephen used to compose these melodies makes this simplicity something special. The other side of the album is darker and more introspective: subtle piano notes sound in "Tone", random choir samples are matched with mechanical silences during "Green Shift", while "Section 1" and "Section 2" play with radio recordings and distant echoes of synthetic melodies. The concept of the album will be cleared up only at the end, as every plane will collide in "Rising" and only one feeling will remain...serenity, the ideal monocline fold of everyone's life.
Tags:AMBIENT, ELECTRONIC, MINIMAL, ABSTRACT,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9729
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9729

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Monocline/9729
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Drames Et Précipiceshttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Drames+Et+Precipices/9728Mon, 24 May 2010 15:30:23 +0200
released on zymogen by muhr

released on zymogen by muhr
We're really honoured to introduce you to the new work of Vincent Fugère, aka Muhr. After various collaborations with labels such as Serein, Miasmah and Aerotone, the Canadian musician from Montreal gives us this little jewel called "Drames et Précipices", which redefines his sonical horizons. The ones who are familiar with Muhr music will be surprised listening to these new materials originally composed for a low budget movie and slowly changed to a sort of "spiritual soundtrack". The atmosphere evocated in this music vibrates in these melancholic and dark minutes lighted by disarming melodies and guitar echoes; as during a film you'll hear long moments of silence slowly turn to sullen pads or lonely piano melodies ("Souffle") which clearly leave space for a visual component."Du Temps Des Héros" introduces with harsh sparkles of white noise the most intense and emotive song of the entire ep, "De La Gouache Dans Le Ciel", an emotional composition with an old piano drawing a melancholic background over a hypnotic rhythm; the following compositions are brief fragments of unusual evocative power. From the resonant sadness of "The Heroes Are Dead" to the mysterious sub drone of "Le Gouffre En Nous", from the emotive instability of "Souffle" to the gloomy synths of "Une Cage Dans La Rétine", Muhr's music gives space to your imagination, but the final scene is already written, a "Siestes Tragiques". In this conclusive track a guitar lost in the boundless cold of reverbs and far echoes improvises over bleeps and granular effects...as "the end" is showing on your imaginary film.
Tags:AMBIENT, ELECTRONIC, MINIMAL, MODERN CLASSICAL,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9728
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9728

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Drames+Et+Precipices/9728
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Insectes, Attente et Pixelshttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Insectes,+Attente+et+Pixels/9727Mon, 24 May 2010 15:29:59 +0200
released on zymogen by D'incise

released on zymogen by D'incise
Among the artists who combine the aesthetics and sound sculpting of avant-garde with the posse and power of bass-driven urban music D'incise is clearly one of the most interesting and solids of them all and his latest release on Zymogen is only an example of that."Insectes, Attente et Pixels" got to be one of the best produced albums I have heard in a while, every sound seems carefully constructed and the way the percussive structures are built, leaves the listener absolutely dazzled and delighted. The first track "Elle Dort" is a mellow and epic opener, with a laid back mood to it that clashes with an intricate progression of broken percussions that maintain a level of tension through the entire track. This album have some hyper, convoluted and frantic peaks on "Contemplatif et pixellisé" and "On peut pas tout cacher avec le printemps": both ecstasies of broken sounds and blazing self-constraining shapes, that grow into enormous bursts of chaotic energy.Something that I truly love abut D'incise, is that he has some kind of a hardcore attitude, very strong willed and filled with anger and rage that is very present on "Spectacle" whose heavy rhythm evokes the power and will of a military march. Even though I don't speak French and don't understand what the vocal sample from the beginning says, it's not hard to understand that they are upset about something that has to do with the unfair and miss proportioned economical situation the world lives today. This very powerful and dark record finds a balance with slower and awkwardly built tracks such as "Anticipation D'un Voyage"(probably my favorite tracks of the whole record), "Traumatisme Enfantin" and finally "Insectes diurnes et nocturnes". On those pieces D'incise experiment with unsetting speeds and weird pitching that grow into some really beautiful shapes and motions."Insectes, Attente et Pixels" is an exceptional record that a lot of people could clearly enjoy: from the IDM-heads to people more interested in avant garde experimentation.
Tags:IDM, EXPERIMENTAL, AMBIENT, GLITCH, ELECTRONIC,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9727
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9727

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Insectes,+Attente+et+Pixels/9727
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Easy Listeninghttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Easy+Listening/9726Mon, 24 May 2010 15:29:45 +0200
released on zymogen by Takeshi Nakamura

released on zymogen by Takeshi Nakamura
Takeshi Nakamura is back on zymogen for another brilliant work taking his sound to another level of complexity. This 6 tracks ep has been produced after Ordinary Days following similar processes of composition, always keeping a quality level near to the maximum and creating sonorities similar to his previous record without any loss of intensity.Takeshi accustoms us to pure geometric structures stained with digital rough sketches, sweet discords and harmonious glitches, but with these compositions he overcomes his strandards.Wonderful...can you find a better word to start this promenade through artificial landscapes?"I Sink" moves from frenetic beats with hissing basses in constant evolution and slow pads expanding under robotic voices, a lesson of composition. The following "Cloud" is an hypnotic sequence with cuts of a melody lost in reverbs wich becomes concrete into "Defeat", a groovy declaration of digital pessimism, totally amazing! During "Particle" an incredible flow of silicic acid will reach you neurons, floating high frequencies over a rough snares wich keep up the fragile structure of the beat. The conclusion of the ep is "Sundial", a long evolution of a simple idea based on soft loops slowly submerged by an enormous flux of ultra-low frequencies and drones for an intense growth wich finishes in the same way it started like an infinite mantra; personally one of the best song created by Nakamura so far. With this work Takeshi shows once again his abilities to creating deep experimental music and we feel really lucky to have the possibility to release a work of this kind of quality...an "Easy Listening" near perfection.
Tags:EXPERIMENTAL, AMBIENT, ELECTRONIC, ABSTRACT,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9726
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9726

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Easy+Listening/9726
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Data Transferhttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Data+Transfer/9725Mon, 24 May 2010 15:29:28 +0200
released on zymogen by Darren McClure Lezrod

released on zymogen by Darren McClure Lezrod
The average music savvy already knows that a great deal of the most interesting electronic music is coming out of latin american countries. With Mexico and Argentina at he first wave of experimentalists, we now have to include Colombia, because of artists like David Velez, aka Lezrod.David started his jouney of micro-ambient electronica right here at Zymogen, with 'Retorno a la Nada', a mutant body of glitchy drones and jazz-inspired compositions. But Lezrod's music isn't static, it's always evolving and shapeshifting into something that completely mirrors the artist's complex personality. David is also a big music lover, of all kinds. So it's not surprising that eventually he would ask some of his friends, also music artists that David respects, to do something together.'Data Transfer' is the result of a combined work led out by Lezrod and his friends, where chunks of music information were transfered electronically back and forth, between Lezrod's hometown Bogota and other distant places like Darren McClure's Japanese home, Gurdonark's Texas prairie, Stephen's Ohio and Fgmcvp's Florida beaches, the latter being a personal friend of David from Colombia. All music pieces were assembled by Lezrod and this party of artists that he admires. Darren McClure, one of David's recent musical discoveries, was responsible for the work on four out of the seven tracks that make this album.'Data Transfer' is also Lezrod's most 'low profile' work to date. Maybe the fact that these weren't meant to be solo tracks, made him hide a bit from his sometimes brutal approaches to composition. Darren's collaboration is a perfect example of that. His microtonal walls of sound, completely dampen Lezrod's glitches, without making them disappear, taming them, taking control of the narrative. 'North Coast' and 'Masato' are personal favorites and possibly the best work these two artists had made until this day. Two delicate soundworks, built up from huge microstructures with complex rhythms of bleeps and glitches, bonding together into heavy and hazy waves of drones. I could listen to this all day and just leave my brain idling.Stephen Walter and Gurdonark pieces are pretty different from McClure's ones. Walter's 'Ramute' is a short piece of drum'n'bass-like fuzzy beats with melodic and hypnotic tones glued on top. Gurdonark's 'Final Dub' has a chamber kind of ambience feel, with lots of noisy layers piled up and heavily delayed, Kingston flavored.'Opitas', Lezrod's tribute to his colombian mate and old college friend Fgmcvp, is perhaps the most Lezrod-kind of track. It reminds me of other tracks he has made, namely the ones from 'Retorno a la Nada'. Not surprinsingly, because Fgmcvp is credited as David's mentor when it comes to music production.David has compiled here a great selection of collaborative work that will be remembered and tresured for years to come. There aren't many artists with such relatively short careers making music with this quality and density. Zymogen can indeed be proud of putting out releases like this. And from this side, we can only be thankful for that.
Tags:EXPERIMENTAL, ELECTRONIC,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9725
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9725

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Data+Transfer/9725
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Modemhttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Modem/9724Mon, 24 May 2010 15:29:12 +0200
released on zymogen by Bacanal Intruder

released on zymogen by Bacanal Intruder
Bacanal Intruder brings zymogen a bit far from its usual habits, but this joyful derailment is definitely a pleasure. A micro-ep with five little tracks and five little melodies sketched with guitars, harmonica, melodica and other strange instruments processed with computer over glitches and digital beats. Luis handles these sounds carefully creating different melodic patterns and, moving from different atmospheres, is able to give you a carefree smile with ironic and beautiful music. A melodica is tickled by microsounds during "Peladilla" to introduce you into this strange world where you'll hear a baby voice singing with you, but suddenly "La Pulga" is there to wake you up with its chaotic melodies and fast random sounds, and then a break; "Lloriao", simply a nice song, nothing more than that, and sometimes it's lovely realizing how simplicity could be beautiful by itself, just a riff, just a melody...it's enough to feel its beauty. Just some minutes and we're already at the end of the ep, yes, but what an end! "Modem Prelude" and "Modem" are something really moving with a stretched guitar and a tender baby voice wich explains you what's the meaning of tenderness in 3 minutes: keep attention!
Tags:EXPERIMENTAL, AMBIENT, ELECTRONIC, FOLK, ABSTRACT,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9724
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9724

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Modem/9724
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Ordinary Dayshttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Ordinary+Days/9723Mon, 24 May 2010 15:28:49 +0200
released on zymogen by Takeshi Nakamura

released on zymogen by Takeshi Nakamura
Ordinary Days is a deep and consistent release focused on the latest productions of the sound designer Takeshi Nakamura composed in the last part of 2005. After a nice release on Neureal, Takeshi brings back his skills to create this complex album made of microsounds, drones and cold atmospheres where our Japanese friend shows his addiction to the obscure side of electronic sounds. These nine tracks sketch a development in Takeshi's music through a combination between cold ambient mood over oblique and processed rhythm. Ordinary Days moves between these two polarities: "Foolish Love" is the anomaly of the entire album with an intriguing melody that vibrates for a moment and then dissipates into the rough edges of "Killing Time" and "Maze". In the first one Takeshi builds an essential structure of minimal beats and hypnotizing loops interspaced by a warm pad, the second one has a similar structure too but with a singular acid riff that explodes at the end of the track. "Dozed Off" slows down the tension into far reverbs and resonant samples, then Takeshi disjoints a "Commonplace Beat" into the chipped and disorganic mellow of "Peaceful Days". "Voices", probably the best track of the album, is a complex of computerized voices, intricate beats and sub drones, a mood wich can be compared with the sonority of songs like Ipacial Section or Sim Gishel of the mighty Autechre who surely stands among Takeshi's ispirations. The end of Ordinary Days is a deep and cerebral journey through desolate landscapes of cold ambient lightened by high frequency quakes where you'll feel lost and fascinated.
Tags:AMBIENT, ELECTRONIC,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9723
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9723

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Ordinary+Days/9723
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Novctzemberhttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Novctzember/9722Mon, 24 May 2010 15:20:53 +0200
released on zymogen by Ibakusha

released on zymogen by Ibakusha
With this release we're very glad to introduce Ibakusha and his music. During these years Manuel has developed an articulate style of composition through many different types of inspiration, but the most significant influence is, without any doubt, the sound of labels like Merck, Skam or n5MD...somebody calls it idm, but this genre is definitely too tight for Ibakusha's music. He finally collects these six tracks into "Novctzember", his debut, an album full of inspired songs, warm melodies, deep pads and nice beats, plus some "disturbing" elements. Those "disturbing" elements give his music something really special, something you don't expect; the lofi guitar riff in "Taxifolia", the intense cello during "Fripées" or the exploding rhythm on "Asperité", all essential components of the entire ep. Novctzember will bring you through an intense listening of very distant music atmospheres, from the gentle harshness of "Asperité" to the dilated "46.67", the emotional intensity of "Fripées" designed by the cello and "Taxifolia" assembled with a freaky guitar and an ultra compressed beat that will make your subs tremble. Unique! The last two tracks are the resume of the entire disc "Souffle Buée" has an old school idmish strucure floating over ambient pads, and "Chlorophylle Rouge", one of the best songs of the ep, takes you to a gentle end. Manuel manages perfectly the intensity of his music with particular structures where the song acme hangs on for a moment and then is released, creating a sort of perpetual climax.
Tags:IDM, EXPERIMENTAL, AMBIENT, ELECTRONIC,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9722
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9722

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Novctzember/9722
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Toyshttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Toys/9721Mon, 24 May 2010 15:20:32 +0200
released on zymogen by Songraphie

released on zymogen by Songraphie
November brings the first cold, Songraphie lend us their "Toys" to make our room warmer with some childish memories. The duo from Moscow, formed by Ilya and Paul Bocharov, skilled and talented producers, has created something different from everything they ever pubblished for Otium, their former label. These "toys" are the result of a very particoular mix between lot of different styles and influences; clicks & cuts, hard beat, idmish melodies, broken-tek, ambient pads, 8bit synths, glitchy rhythm and much more. During these nine tracks the word "eclectic" is explained very well. Little jewels perfectly assembled that will remain imprinted in your memory; "The Cinnamon doll" with a contagious melody and bouncing rythms, "Tin Tell-tale On A Wooden Gee-Gee" with clicks & cuts bumped by 4/4 deep kicks, "The Clumsy Elephant" with its slow growing up of crunchy beats and soft pads, "My Baby Mouse In Space Flight" uptempo broken beat under a symphony of acid synths, "A Little Battle Of Bear Cubs" brings you into a darker mood, the 8bit Dino's saga and the ironic end of "Saucers Race" and "The Author Wants To Sing Too" will make you feel the joyful atmoshpere that flutters all over. Ilya and Paul are the puppeteers of this wonderful toys theatre made of glitchs, heavy compressed beats, low frequencies, and an incredible quantity of talent. Take them seriously.
Tags:IDM, GLITCH, ELECTRONIC,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9721
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9721

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Toys/9721
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Mémoires Disséquées/Dissected Memorieshttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Memoires+Dissequees/Dissected+Memories/9720Mon, 24 May 2010 15:20:14 +0200
released on zymogen by Diatribes

released on zymogen by Diatribes
Diatribes is an improvisation project formed by two jazz musicians, drummer Cyril Bondi and saxophonist Gael Riondel, and D'Incise, an electronic producer focused on sound designing. The meeting of these musicians has created a hybrid between two different conceptions of experimentation in music; free jazz and manipulation of cold electronic sounds. This concept seems to be quite simple since you listen to it: digital noise added to nervous drumming improvisation, shrill sax matched with a flood of saturated frequencies, real-time sampling and effects manipulation over intricated instrumental patterns. Definitely not simple. Five tracks that split your perception of sound in a "diatribe" between electronics and analogics where you'll find difficult to distinguish one from another in an active listening/perception and interpretation of music. This is what you'll find through this five brief, but intensive, excerpts taken from two different improvisation sessions. Furthermore at the end of the ep there's a remix made by the electronic mind of the project, D'incise, who immerses instrumental samples in a colder ambient mood to take the listener one step further in the wintry world of Diatribes. Definitely not simple.
Tags:EXPERIMENTAL, ELECTRONIC, FUTURE JAZZ,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9720
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9720

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Memoires+Dissequees/Dissected+Memories/9720
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Retorno a la nadahttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Retorno+a+la+nada/9719Mon, 24 May 2010 15:19:30 +0200
released on zymogen by Lezrod

released on zymogen by Lezrod
For the first release of zymogen.net we bring you the debut album of David Velez, Lezrod, a brand new artist from Bogotà? , Colombia. Raln (Retorno a la nada), represents an exploration into David's personal style of composition; these songs were produced between april and september of this year, while David was exploring many different ways to express his feelings with music, but always with his very personal style of composition. The opener "Blach" sets the standard of the entire album with a harmonious whole of bleeps, moody atmospheres, moving drones, jazzy samples and a reverbered piano wich create an intense growing up. "Spr.m" slows down the nervous atmospheres of "Blach" into a dilated and melancholic mood assembled with similar elements of the previous one, also including the distant notes of a piano, that bring the listener to "Lzblnc", the most recent work, showing the latest developments of Lezrod's music: an interlacement of field recordings surrounded by warm ambient pads in constant mutation between airy reverberations and resonant mid frequencies. "Nada" continues on the same line but with a different approach, more immediate and direct to heart, preferably broken, with melancholic guitar strings immersed into a deepness of soft pads and glitchy sounds, but after these distensions there's an harsh break, "Alvp". This song can be interpreted as the intruder of the entire album with bouncing rythms and joyful melodies, but with this captivating elements will be absolutely the one hard to forget. The final part of Raln has "Pz" and "Dm" as balancing elements of a perfect conclusion, the first one takes back the dilated sonority of "Lzblnc" and the second one the structures of "Blach" through an intensive work of frequencies saturation. This songs are the result of a deep work of research and I hope that this research will be never ending for other nice works like this.
Tags:EXPERIMENTAL, GLITCH, ELECTRONIC, FUTURE JAZZ,

License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9719
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9719

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Retorno+a+la+nada/9719
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
The Market Freshhttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/The+Market+Fresh/9718Mon, 24 May 2010 15:07:37 +0200
released on zymogen by Nicolas Bernier Simon Trottier

released on zymogen by Nicolas Bernier Simon Trottier
Nicolas Bernier and Simon Trottier are two talented musicians from Montreal, Canada. Nicolas is an electroacoustic artist and founder of Ekumen collective more recently famous for his live performance "La Chambre des Machines" with Martin Messier invited in festivals around the world including Transmediale (Germany) and Sonar (Spain). Simon is an improvisational guitarist who recently became member of the Canadian band Timber Timbre. Together they released two excellent EPs on 12rec ("... et retrouvé en fôret" and "Objet abandonne en mer") and in August 2009, during the Sound Travels Festival in Toronto, they performed an improvisation gig in a market fresh during the day and this one-track EP is the recording of that show. Because of its improvisational nature this EP is deeply different from everything you already heard from them. The perfect mix of guitar melodies and electronic sounds which was the trademark of their previous songs it's here expanded and dilated into a unique fluxes. The brilliant combination is still there, but this 19 minutes long recording shows a very different approach to the sound and leaves more space to experimentation and sound design.
License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9718
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9718

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/The+Market+Fresh/9718
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Dwelling Spellshttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Dwelling+Spells/9717Mon, 24 May 2010 15:07:28 +0200
released on zymogen by offthesky

released on zymogen by offthesky
Offthesky is Jason Corder from Kentucky, USA. You have probably already heard of him as he is one of the most talented and prolific composers on the entire netaudio scene. He has been releasing music via some of the most interesting labels and netlabels around, always refining his own personal voice in the world of diverse electronic music. As he personally reports on his website, the creative process behind his work is very particular: "Each album concept surrounds the use of chaos theory and weather patterns to drive the movement, texture, timbres, tone, and dynamic of each recorded instrument (actually, temperature records and collated barometric pressure pattern data as well as fractal mathematics have been mined and interpolated to drive reaktor(vst) or max/msp dsp lfo/parameters). The methods for creating an album are usually as evolved and random as the sky patterns they are inspired from. Yet an axiom of offthesky is to keep each album conceptually based upon a theme." His brand new EP on Zymogen, Dwelling Spells, doesn't break these rules; composed around a specific concept, it evolves from the idea of an old lonely abandoned house that is full of growing things and subtle new organic life, as depicted on the cover which was taken by italian photographer Fulvio Romiti. The music is evocative yet nostalgic of something past (a place, a room, an atmosphere...) which doesn't exist anymore, yet has become more poetic and fascinating than the untouched state.
License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9717
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9717

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Dwelling+Spells/9717
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
èsopehttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/esope/9716Mon, 24 May 2010 15:07:26 +0200
released on zymogen by Nicola Ratti

released on zymogen by Nicola Ratti
Nicola Ratti is one of Zymogen's favourite Italian composers. After the acclaimed album From The Desert Came Saltwater, published on Anticipate in 2008, and the collaborative project Bellows with Giuseppe Ielasi, Nicola gives us a unique composition called ésope. This work was originally done for the exhibition "ésope reste ici et se repose"#1, which took place in Montpellier between October 30th and December 13th 2008. It's a single track based on processed field recordings taken in Montpellier between the 22nd and 25th April of the same year and was conceived of as the musical background for the exhibition. Twenty copies of this work have been printed on cdrs in conjunction with very special handmade packaging by Fatima Bianchi, which you can still buy directly on Nicola's myspace. Nicola Ratti's music is based on the search for a personal language that is capable of joining basic song structure, electro-acoustic experimentation and the use of sounds extracted from the environment in which we live. He does this with a sensibility that ranges from improvisation to the construction of sound via sheer artisanship. Voice and words are combined to produce a variety of niceties, overtones and gradation open to all forms of interpretation. In this piece you'll find all these elements, but this time Nicola is focused more on textures and sound design creating a different atmosphere from his previous work. This is a real gem that we can explore while waiting for his forthcoming album "Ode", which will see the light later this year on Preservation.
License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9716
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9716

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/esope/9716
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
1123581321345589http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/1123581321345589/9715Mon, 24 May 2010 15:07:00 +0200
released on zymogen by Oskar Hallbert

released on zymogen by Oskar Hallbert
Oskar Hallbert is a musician who lives in a house in the woods in the north Sweden. The EP "Sids apartment" on Rainmusic has been one of Zymogen's favourite album of 2008 and we luckily got in touch with him to plan the re-release of "1123581321345589". Previously released in 50 copies on a small american CD-r label. "1123581321345589" is a concept album on the Fibonacci numbers. Oskar writes: "I'm interested in numbers, and I'm interested in failuers. Fibonacci tried to make a number sequence that would show how a population of rabbits grew. Turns out his number sequence is worhless if you try to show how a rabbit population grows - BUT he unwillingly discovered something far more interesting. Turns out that the Fibonacci numbers appear everywhere in nature, in the proportion of our bodies, in the way that sunflowers organize there seeds, in the way branches grow on a tree and the way leafs grow on the branches, in the way eagles fly towards their preys - everywhere. The Fibonacci numbers are the closest we've got to mathematicly understand the laws by wich our world is created. It's a quite personal album. I like my music to be somewhat documentary. Almost all songs are based on an improvisation, and then digital editing and overdubbing, arranging and more overdubbing and more editing. Most of the snippets origin from my mp3-player, with wich I've recorded stuff that happend and places I've visit. They make a mosaique, that sums up my life during the time I made the songs. And there is a few sampels, a little from the tv show "This is our music", one from the movie "Harrold and Maude" ,..., and of course Sture Dahlstrom, one my favorite authors (who played jazz before he started writing). He goes: "I haven't tuch my guitar for 40 years now, guess I wanna know if there's still some music in me." I was really into Fibonaccis numbers at the time, it's a beautiful sequence. And I just liked the idea of a record with 89 tracks. And I needed something to arrange my music around. The number sequence did it." Now listen.
License: Creative Commons | by-nc-nd

m3u: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/9715
zip: http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/9715

Release page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/1123581321345589/9715
Label page: http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/zymogen/489
Noisy Side Of Lifehttp://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Noisy+Side+Of+Life/9714Mon, 24 May 2010 13:33:55 +0200
released on Pavillon36 by Cursed Chimera

released on Pavillon36 by Cursed Chimera
Cursed Chimera is Benatos Thompson. The track Assembly Line however has quite a different concept behind it, just imagine this “sometime in the not too distant future an assembly line android plans to escape it’s human overlords”. If you don’t know what I mean, then you will once you listen to the track.
To describe this release in terms of genre, it’s quite a challenging task, it’s not exactly Techno, it’s not really Electro, but it’s definitely electronic with a hint of breakbeat-zombie-grunge-tech thrown into the mix.

Anaconda combines a drum and bass style warped bassline with electro house beats, sinister textures and screaming effects. Big Fat Star features another large, fat bassline, this time adding filtered, stuttering vocal samples along with pumping house rhythms. Itchy And Scratchy keeps the bassline house vibe but has a more minimal feel, with dirty glitch effects and old skool sliding hoover samples. All tracks are free to download under a Creative Commons licence in full length, DJ friendly mp3 format. In his latest album "Nomades En No Man's Land" Syndrôm offers us a wide variety of electronic music styles that spans from experimental IDM, Breakbeat to Dub and abstract Hip-hop. Syndrôm says he began to produce the album at April of 2009 with a whole year to make it. I think that's one of the reason you will discover a 20-tracks high quality and complete album, with meticulous arranged and long time prepared. After his Pavillon36 Recordings brought us almost a half-hundred IDM influenced releases. Bypass Netlabel is pleasure to present you Syndrôm himself's productions and also his second release for Bypass, the "Nomades En No Man's Land". Credits: All tracks Written & Produced by Syndrôm. Except "La Dèche, Le Twist Et Le Reste": Originally Written by Hubert Félix Thiéfaine, Produced by Tony Carbonare, Remix & Additionnal production by Syndrôm. and "Jolie": Originally Written & Produced by Nina Kardec, Remix & Additionnal production by Syndrôm. Mastered by ZhangJW. Artwork by Eve Maillot.
