The Hyper Sonic Resonator - Blind Man’s Buff [tsa-034]
The Hyper Sonic Resonator’s third musical offering, & second terminalstation release, Blind Man’s Buff emerges out of live projects & shows performed during 2009.
Composed as a four-part fugue with strange segues & voices drifting in, linking up, looping & punctuating throughout, The Hyper Sonic Resonator’s Blind Man’s Buff is an odyssey of sound; a bizarre, hilarious & occasionally frightening take on the genre of musical improvisation.
The sound comes from a Steptoe-like, Thrift-Shop pillage of vintage equipment: dusting off the DX7, circuit-bending the Crumar string section, illegal 8-bit sampling raids, the resuscitation of ancient-relic analogue synths, & recombining & re-wiring these sacred objects & cultural artefacts with HSR’s usual irreverent black humour.

Vintage Warrior Review:
Mr Eddy & The Hyper Sonic Resonator - Kings College, Birmingham.
The lights go down & we are presented with a silent hand-show, they are ladies hands, painted & unbitten, a kind of shadow play ensues, sleek hands, cut to the outline of a record deck, the hand lifts the needle & makes contact. We hear the click of the groove; the lights go up a little to reveal the group, silhouetted against the screen four guys on keyboards & percussion.
The set starts off in a kind of cocktail lounge mood, with comic lines from old films & TV. It’s difficult to tell where the tracks float into each other with the visuals, but patterns & motifs begin to emerge & form. There is a natural switch in groove to a more Krautrock feel & its not obvious where this is all going. There is some murderous screaming on the screen, a woman in Greek mask enacts grief...& slowly as her wails fade, a sea-shanty dub is picked out. Mr Eddy floats and dissolves battleships in black & white whose guns twist into trees which twists into jungle & once again the groove picks up to tribal techno as a native boy is chased through the forest by an unseen pursuer, the set ends as the pursued boy makes his escape over a waterfall.
Best described as tripped-out surrealist sideshow, The Hyper Sonic Resonator give us a fantastical account, a bizarre musical wandering, terrifying & utterly compelling, with stunning visuals by the witty Mr Eddy.

Xarhope is Samuel Ufus and after several months of emails and a few different albums I am happy to present to you musique pour bande dessinée. When attempting to select a new pandafuzz release rarely am I looking for melodic elements that appeal to me, or even an aesthetic that connects them all. What I am really after is the attraction of something new and in the case of xarhope every album is completely new. One never knows what to expect and one is consistently surprised with the results. While you may not be immediately attracted to the busking free jazz nature of this new xarhope album....I invite you to open your windows....bring in the sounds of the streets or forest....and play this album at a very high volume. A brief description from xarhope:"...sounds recorded in the street and at home in different cities in arab countries like lebanon jordan and cairo, I did some kind of rude zen jams with musicians and non musicians, just people i meet in the places i stayed... we used short instruments as jawharp, bells, harmonica, tibetan bowl, castanholas, metal plates, toys and other objects that we can find in HybridZeno's album "Cosmic" comes as a pleasant surprise to the CL catalog, this time bringing UK's most famous basslines straight out of the dubstep genre, directly from the transantlantic city of Denver (USA). After a year of almost releases, Zeno finally presents us with this delightful record and the wait was worthwhile. Zeno doesn't follow the traditional genre rules, instead he brings a more complex feeling to it, drawing influences from a variety of places that quickly evolve in different directions, mixing itself with the most improbable genres. With classic acid techno synth lines, moody ambients and everything he can find, Zeno explores uncharted territores with "Cosmic". MC Zulu gives his vocals to the DJ Machine song and surprises doesn't just end here: Jack-of-All-Trades Huron, gives us two lovely remixes to complete this bass driven trip, with a more classical approach, faithful to the roots of dubstep and another stimulating remix from veteran Widdler complements the album with a re-interpretation from Clish. Die Geschichte von “Bratzeln in der Box” wurde 4 Mal neu geschrieben. Der Dresdner Künstler Clemens Acidus hat einen leicht verspielten, an “Silversurfer” von Hardy Hard erinnernden, Remix geschaffen, welcher mit den gewohnten Acid-Elementen daherkommt. A2 kommt von O.S.R., der seinem Stil treu bleibt und einen sehr verspulten Track beisteuert. B1 ist von Jason Voorhees, eine Hälfte des Liveacts Ridgway & Voorhees. Wer die Liveacts der beiden einmal gehört hat, weiß was ihn erwartet: Derbe Beats und gnadenlose Sounds. B2 ist von einem Künstler aus UK, wie der Name “Made in London” schon sagt. nx005 is a collection of sounds generated from a patch of Csound.
The patch is a small variation of a granular generator appeared in the first chapter of the “The Csound Book” and programmed by Dr. Richard Boulanger.
The algorithm that controls the duration of sound and silence is as follows:
1. 8 mono files with 12 minutes are created.
2. A pseudo-random generator chooses between this matrix, where 0 means silence and 1 sound. The divisions are multiples of 3 minutes.

3. The 8 files are cut according to the matrix and becomes an overall stereo mix.

All material remains the property of the respective artists and is offered for free download in line with this license. The ten surveys published so far feature over one-hundred artists, from all over the world; and the material in toto represents significant documentation of the experimental scene itself. Involvement in the project has helped spawn many fruitful collaborations, live-shows and a vibrant exchange of ideas; so much so that, for several repeat-participants, Classwar Karaoke is as much a collective as it is a mechanism for the release of new material. If you are interested in participating, please explore this myspace in the first instance in order to establish whether your material fits, stylistically and in terms of outlook, with that of the current survey. There are two methods of participation: either with a piece of music or a short-film. On rare occasions, we may invite both. Each method also includes an image and a piece of text. Imagine yourself entering a toy shop shop and every doll has its own story to tell about how it got there or how it ended up there. The buying of a doll and the few minutes in the shop are transformed into a long journey with voices and stories ending up into a narration from each doll’s point of view dealing with matters such as love, emotional breakdowns, separation, solitude and happiness.
"Maybe for all these reasons it took me so long to finish this record... The need to fully understand these stories and the roles that those characters were playing inside my head. This need pushed me to search for solutions and possibilities all the way to Iceland. Stuck in a church Northwest of Iceland for quite some time, actually helped to capture all these voices that i was hearing. Like the first, this is a collection of improvised live recordings from March 2010. In places, very ambient: long, drawn out pieces that evolve slowly, creating quite an emotive and evocative sound, but there is more rythym and a dub edge to this album. Each piece starts as a blank canvas with no preconceived notion of where the music will go. Notes and noises are played from synths, guitar, voice and samples and fed into one or two loops which repeat and layer and decay. These loops can be quite long, so as a performer I can add notes as I see fit, but only have a certain amount of control over what is heard - the rest is serendipity.
