Oskar Hallbert is a Swedish composer who makes minimal music; tranquil melodies, documentary field recordings and the warm hiss you get from old microphones, casette tapes and an out of date mp3-player. You might know him from his former online releases on Zymogen or Rain Music. He has also released physical albums on small underground lables around the world, most recent on U.K. based Heat death.The EP "doodling" consists of 5 tracks and is 12 minutes and 12 seconds long. All songs are like little folk-miniatures for instance containing simple guitar-figures, a toy keyboard and field recordings. The feeling of the EP reminds me of old photographs found in the attic, with buckled corners, covered with dust, and with faded colouration. They are like pieces of frozen time, they tell a fraction of a story.

The second remix is by Marc Burt, whose progressive trance version of Beautiful Geometry adds funky warping synth bass, warm synth pads and a catchy lead riff. The third album in the Twilight Sessions series. Like the first two, this is a collection of improvised live recordings. In places, very ambient: long, drawn out pieces that evolve slowly, creating quite an emotive and evocative sound. Each piece starts as a blank canvas with no preconceived notion of where the music will go. Notes and noises are played from synths, guitar, voice and samples and fed into one or two loops which repeat and layer and decay. These loops can be quite long, so as a performer I can add notes as I see fit, but only have a certain amount of control over what is heard - the rest is serendipity.

Come ricordava Derek Bailey, grande maestro della musica improvvisata e autore del bellissimo libro “Improvisation Its nature and Practice in Music”, a cui questo progetto è giustamente dedicato, grande è la carenza di informazioni e didocumentazioni sull’improvvisazione, AlchEmistica con questo progetto vuole cercare almeno in parte di iniziare a colmare questa lacuna: tutte le musiche sono registrate con la licenza Creative Commons che ne permette il download e lo scambio gratuito esclusivamente per fini culturali e NON commerciali, ma allo stesso tempo lasciando ai musicisti la proprietà delle musiche stesse che possono ritirare, registrare con licenza SIAE e fare uscire presso una casa discografica tradizionale in qualunque istante.Il Maestro Eugenio Becherucci ha voluto anche lui partecipare a questa iniziativa registrando con la licenza Creative Commons tre improvvisazioni con la sua chitarra classica. Dai titoli particolari e allusivi: “on e”, “take without overdub” e “the harmonics rite” questi tre brani costituiscono la seconda uscita per la netlabel AlchEmistica, la “sorella” della netlabel Laverna, dedicata al mondo della musica classica e contemporanea che realizza uscite discografiche con licenza Creative Commons.

While it is today present in almost every area of music, there is an almost absence of information about it.''Derek Bailey, Improvisation Its nature and Practice in Music.L'idea di improvvisazione risale agli albori della musica ed è praticamente certo che la pratica improvvisativa, nella tradizione occidentale, fosse massicciamente presente (e forse costituisse la parte dominante dell'esecuzione musicale) nell'epoca che va dalle origini alla codifica gregoriana della musica sacra.Anche nei secoli seguenti la pratica improvvisativa fu sempre presente: ad esempio, certe forme musicali classiche sono basate sull'improvvisazione, come i preludi, le toccate, le fantasie (la Fantasia e fuga in sol minore - BWV 542) o la fuga a 3 che apre l'Offerta musicale (BWV 1079) di Johann Sebastian Bach sono probabilmente improvvisazioni trascritte successivamente su spartito. La grande battuta d'arresto avviene dal 1800 in poi quando nella musica colta occidentale l'improvvisazione comincia ad essere considerata secondaria rispetto alla fedeltà dell'interpretazione di quanto scritto nelle partiture. Addirittura il giornalista e saggista inglese David Toop segnala maliziosamente questa coincidenza con la nascita dell'editoria musicale e la diffusione di massa presso la nascente borghesia mercantile e industriale dell'educazione musicale come fenomeno culturale distintivo.La musica contemporanea, l'avanguardia si sono riavvicinati progressivamente a questo concetto musicale, che nel frattempo non aveva conosciuto crisi negli ambiti della musica popolare e nel jazz, per cui ora anche negli ambienti accademici si sente sempre più parlare di improvvisazione e nei Conservatori italiani cominciano a istituirsi cattedre appositamente dedicate.E' in questo clima, in questa nuova rinascita che la net label AlchEmistica lancia l'ambizioso programma ''Guitar Improvisation Project (GIT)'' con l'obiettivo di mettere in risalto una prassi sempre più in uso da parte di chitarristi devoti alla musica contemporanea ma di chiara estrazione accademica: quella della libera improvvisazione.
