Historically, surfaces were initially defined as subspaces of Euclidean spaces. Often, these surfaces were the locus of zeros of certain functions, usually polynomial functions. Such a definition considered the surface as part of a larger (Euclidean) space, and as such was termed extrinsic. In the previous section, a surface is defined as a topological space with certain property, namely Hausdorff and locally Euclidean. This topological space is not considered as being a subspace of another space. In this sense, the definition given above, which is the definition that mathematicians use at present, is intrinsic. A surface defined as intrinsic is not required to satisfy the added constraint of being a subspace of Euclidean space. It seems possible at first glance that there are surfaces defined intrinsically that are not surfaces in the extrinsic sense. However, the Whitney embedding theorem asserts that every surface can in fact be embedded homeomorphically into Euclidean space, in fact into E4. Therefore the extrinsic and intrinsic approaches turn out to be equivalent

Being raised in agony, Piper_Ben always tried to escape from the world around him and nevertheless couldn’t manage to do so.

Finally some time later, being 19, he found out music was the perfect way for me to deal with his day to day struggle. Music helped him get over any broken relationship and it kinda encouraged him to carry on. Somehow, though, only listening to music wasn’t quite enough. Thus he tried to make music himself, he got himself some cheap software and tried re-editing some 1950’s style rockabilly songs, i.e. Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard ect..
Those re-edits sounded like crap, though, and then he tried to make music of his own. The first ever song he made was called “Ghost” and had some ‘spooky’ synth sample; which sounded like one of those cartoon ghosts flying around a haunted old mansion, like the ones you could think of when reading “The Canterville Ghost”.
He got more into the Ambient/Chillout style of music then and, after his late uncle from the USA told him about the people that first came to what later should be the USA, made a whole album, which he called the “Founding Fathers EP”. It only had three songs on it, yet they each had a minimum length of 17 minutes. This he considers to be his first ever album.
About a year after that, he discovered a guy from Hong Kong named Zhang Jian Wen, who makes a very special kinda music that sounds like a mixture of Kraftwerk and Jean-Michel Jarre. He inspired Piper_ben and he trained his composing skills the best he could, after that he got more and more into making music. He learned how to work with several kinds of music software and his style of music got more and more electronic, until it was what you can hear today.

Zardonic from Venezuela is undoubtedly the biggest dark Drum & Bass act in Latin America, with bookings in other countries including tours across the USA and Europe. Over the past few years he has amassed quite some vinyl releases (on labels like Human Imprint, Counterstrike, Subsonik Sound, Mindsaw, Cymbalism, Melting Pot, Assimilate...) and a good bunch of digital and netlabel releases including the seminal T-FREE from Germany, plus he is running his own netlabel Zardonic Recordings. Before putting out "normal" Drum & Bass tunes, he got around in the Metal scene under his alias "Gorepriest", was involved in several projects and made remixes for bands. From that he had actually quite a history of fusing Metal with Drum & Bass even before it became really hip in the Drum & Bass scene. Around 2006/2007 he started concentrating more and more on Drum & Bass, developed his production skills considerably, attracted many fans with his music and eventually managed to gain the standing he has today. Replicator from Romania has his vinyl debut on Aural Carnage and a growing number of digital and netlabel releases (on Mindsaw, Wayside and Black Hoe) under his belt so far, and more material is forthcoming on Dark Asylum, Mindsaw and other labels. Also watch out for his hard Techno collaborations with Delusional aka Mumblz... Replicator comes directly from the dark and technoid side of Drum & Bass, and that goes very well together with Zardonic's approach, as everybody can hear in this nice collaboration tune here.

Its label launch announcement and (1 week later) final statement threads are mandatory because DOA at its best and informative. For interested readers there is even more comedy to be found... And the Promo-Mix (mirror) is one of the funniest things ever - listening is highly recommended!

After participating in various projects. remixing & producing tracks, Lee Fraged returns back to base for his debut personal EP, aptly named "The Joint Stereo EP". Lee provides three deep, dubby, house tracks, as a creative result of his sleepless nights in Chania & Berlin the last years. This EP is a soundtrack of a life between these cities, a collection of sounds, images & contrasts, further enhanced by a solid set of remixes. Our boy, Double Trouble transforms 'Bless the Sinners' into a modern deep house piece with an early 00's feel while Fraged & his serbian pal Mthaza give their own take on the same track - previously available only on the cd compilation Late Night Express. On the other hand, the man behind the mixing desk - Soniferous Garden - offers his interpretations on the other two tracks, by turning in a peudoacid and an antistatic mix.

Peregrino is Bernardo Durand's project. He was born in Muñiz, Argentina in 1982, where he teaches literature to young boys. Bernardo started Peregrino in 2007, when he got his accordion. Bernardo also runs the label "Ahora Eterno", best known for releases from Pulmon, Sublamp and himself. "El azul helado del alba" consists of 7 tracks and has a complete duration of 44 minutes, full of warm, athmospheric and organic drone-sounds. All tracks are fitting together very homogenic. There is a metallic shimmering melody-line, a deep droning fundament and hushed strings, all elements combined to a dark, gloomy sound-sculpture. Especially the organic and dusky character of "El azul helado del alba" provides an abyssal listening-adventure. It feels like walking through an old railway tunnel or diving into a deep sea. Grab your headphones and enjoy the soothing effect of this wonderful work.

In recent years, as computer technology has become more accessible and music software has advanced, interacting with music production technology is now possible using means that bear no relationship to traditional musical performance practices: for instance, laptop performance (laptronica) and live coding. In the last decade a number of software-based virtual studio environments have emerged. These software-based music production tools provide viable and cost-effective alternatives to typical hardware-based production studios, and thanks to advances in microprocessor technology, it is now possible to create high quality music using little more than a single laptop computer. Such advances have democratized music creation, leading to a massive increase in the amount of home-produced music available to the general public via the internet. Artists can now also individuate their sound by creating personalized software synthesizers, effects modules, and various composition environments. Devices that once existed exclusively in the hardware domain can easily have virtual counterparts. In some sense, as a result of technological innovation, the DIY mentality that was once a core part of dance music culture is seeing a resurgence.

In 1996, after the preliminary separation of the Dark Gothic band "ghosting", bassist Holger Wirth and producer and DJ Christian Michael founded the project Flatline. At first they worked with two guitarists in the same style as the previous called ‘Ghosting’ one.Holger and Christian but then decided to enrich the EBM scene and abandoned from then on the guitars. Influenced by the greats of the 80s, they struck new musical paths. The result was several compilations such as the "Made in Germany" Compilations 1 & 3 of the label "Fire Cracker" and an EP called "TOXIC BLOOD”.It was followed by several Supportgigs for bands such as Welle:Erdball, Estampie, Dance or Die, Crüxshadows and Funker Vogt, a compilation post on the "Dark Awakening 3" Compilation and they also won a remix contest on ZILLO’s homepage for Funker Vogt's "Final Thrill", which finally was published on the "Revivor" album by Funker Vogt.The current album "ENJOY THE NOISE" was released by the band in 2009 as a free-download-version and now finally appears as an official release at Ionium Records - still available as free-download under a Creative Commons license and further more it’s now available in all major download stores.
