The "monoton" series were created between october 2008 and april 2009. All tracks follow the same principle: They are all basedon a central audio track with sounds from a famous vintage analogsynthesizer - the Korg MS-10. I extracted these sounds from a tapedating back to 1994/95.

THE WEB: "Once on a saturday in late summer 1994 there was one of these flea marketsin my home town Winterthur. I was in the pub when a colleague bustedin, came straight to me and excitedly asked me if I knewwhat a Korg MS-10 is and if I wanted to buy one - if yes I would haveto hurry because he found one at a stand of the flea market, for only300 bucks (Swiss Franks)! Although back then I was only DJing fromtime to time, but was not doing my own music, had no drum machinesand other equipment, I knew this was a golden opportunity I shouldn'tpass up - techno and house music had become popular and the pricesfor old analog synths nobody was interested in a few years ago hadrisen to astronomical levels. So I immediately went out to the standand bought this vintage device. Back home, I explored the sounds ofit in depth, also because I had no other instrument that competed forattention. I experimented with the patch cords and tried everyconnection. "Sick and industrial sounds and lots of dirt iswhat the MS can do at it's best" (www.sequencer.de) - oh yes,that's exactly what I like. Everytime I had found a sound that Iliked I recorded a few minutes of it on tape. Since I always wantedto do my own electronic music tracks but back then couldn't affordthe equipment I decided to give the Korg MS-10 to my friend Sauri,former DJ from Winterthur (DJ Das Sausen) and drummer of the band"men from s.p.e.c.t.r.e" (superb instrumental music! -visit www.men-from-spectre.org).

Thankgod I had recorded this tape - finally, 14 years later I was able touse this stuff for my own electronic music tracks. After I made the Freeze!-seriesand a few inofficial remixes of oldies-but-goldies from the 80ies (REMIXED)I wanted to do something more "raw", stripped down, classictechno, so this old Korg MS-10 tape was very wellcome. I used thesounds on it as a basis for the tracks (definig theme/mood, suitablebeat and speed), added one or two drummachines, an additional synth-or bassline or a few effects - and that was it. Since the Korg MS-10is monophonic I used the working title "monoton" for thisseries of tracks.

Thetracks on "monoton I" vary from oldschool technohouseacid-like style (monoton5 - doppelstern),wavy rocking breakbeat (waveroller)and even friendly downtempo (cleanup)to raw industrial machine beat (alientank).In monotonX there'sno drummachine, all the drum sounds came from Korg MS-10.

"monotonII" contains alternative versions of several tracks from"monoton I"; the tracks are renamed so that the original aswell as the new version are visible. alientank forexample grew to alientanks in the storm,a three part version with one tank in the beginning and another onereturning to the windy, empty battlefield (middle part) at the end. A continuous, hour long piece split into seven parts.
A heavenly choir with sweeping, slow notes and deep bass.

The music is generative:
each note is played in a long loop, the length of each loop if different for each note, so although the music may seem to vary only slightly, it never quite repeats itself.

The tracks on this album (and albums to follow) are named after Apollo near-Earth asteroids, objects whose orbits cross that of Earth.
There are many hundreds of known Apollo asteroids, though only a few dozen have been named officially, so I may run out of names from this list as quicly as I did with TNOs.

Albums 'Nine' and 'Ten' are ready and will be released over the next couple of months.
I have also been working on surround sound mixes of previous albums. This suite in 6 parts was composed as a musical comment to the collective exhibition held at Castello Aldobrandesco in Arcidosso (GR) during ALTERAZIONI 2011 – Festival of visual and musical arts -. "Contemporaneity looking towards the future goes perfectly with ancient walls, witnesses of a past which is never the same as the present time nor as what lies behind. Heterogeneous artists are confronted with each other, suspended in another dimension which becomes homegeneous all in a sudden. Past becomes future. Opposites realize to be equals." Therefore, we tried to re-create a path where opposite balances would musically dialogue, so to leave them to the narration illustrated by painter Giada Matteoli.



“Music is the synthesis of what we know and what most hidden lies.
It reveals the essence of existence itself. It is the mother of all contrasts.
By juxtaposing opposite elements, it creates life.
Through the chaos, as in the dialogue between the fundamental elements - Water, Air, Fire and Earth -, Music reaches a vital and vibrant balance.
This balance is the seed and the driving force of the Real, since the Real is made of Music.
Also within the Man there is a contrast between opposites, because he desperately strives for balance and, going deeper and deeper into himself, he gets to the knowledge of his own being.
This is strongly expressed by these almost primordial sounds.”

His name is reconstructed by Egyptologists as *ʻAʼpāpī, as it was written ꜥꜣpp(y) and survived in later Coptic as Aphōph.

Tales of Apep's battles against Ra were elaborated during the New Kingdom. Since nearly everyone can see that the sun is not attacked by a giant snake during the day, every day, storytellers said that Apep must lie just below the horizon. This appropriately made him a part of the underworld. In some stories Apep waited for Ra in a western mountain called Bakhu, where the sun set, and in others Apep lurked just before dawn, in the Tenth region of the Night. The wide range of Apep's possible location gained him the title World Encircler. It was thought that his terrifying roar would cause the underworld to rumble. Myths sometimes say that Apep was trapped there, because he had been the previous chief god and suffered a coup d'etat by Ra, or because he was evil and had been imprisoned.

In his battles, Apep was thought to use a magical gaze to hypnotize Ra and his entourage, attempting to devour them whilst choking the river on which they travelled through the underworld with his coils. Sometimes Apep had assistance from other demons, named Sek and Mot. Ra was assisted by a number of defenders who travelled with him, the most powerful being Set, who sat at the helm.

In a bid to explain certain natural phenomena it was said that occasionally Apep got the upper hand. The damage to order caused thunderstorms and earthquakes. Indeed: it was even thought that sometimes Apep actually managed to swallow Ra during the day, causing a solar eclipse, but since Ra's defenders quickly cut him free of Apep, the eclipse always ended within a few minutes. On the occasions when Apep was said to have been killed, he was able to return each night (since he lived in the world of the dead already). In Atenism it is Aten who kills the monster since Aten is the only god in the belief system.

It comes from Sublimator, a producer and DJ from Slavonski Brod in Croatia. He is mostly active with "Minimal, Techno and House sounds" but also makes beats in the language of his other love, Drum & Bass. In 2010 he released 8 Techno tunes on Howling, Tanztone and Nanotech Records, now in 2011 "Snore" is number 9. "2nd Try" and "Understand" are his first released Drum & Bass tunes; more of them are in the making and further Techno releases are on the way.
