Gaetano Fontanazza, a.k.a. Pseudo, guitarist and musician extraordinaire, offers his first release on Sucu Music, the beautifully entitled “Music for Toys Meditation”. As usual, he explores all of the most extreme and fantastic territories his guitar and his array of effects, musical skill and inventive, can take him (and us) to.
It is a short-length release, clocking off at 25 minutes, where ambient, glitch, noise and soundscapes create a unique aural and emotional experience in the listener. Not to forget some acoustic moments which, unexpected as they may sound, given the profoundly electronic feel of the work, do not appear strange or gratuitous at all.
The first track is “Seriously kidding”. Here the atmosphere created by the electric guitar and electronic devices, and the noisy, but not as in loud, nature of the track work as a sort of welcome committee from another dimension, where voices are substituted by sounds. Beeps and feedback run one after the other in vortexes and spirals of sound which you can feel free to call psychedelia for the twenty-second century.
“Imasking,” the second track on the release, is dominated by the acoustic guitar. Much more melody here, though mostly atonal, and percussive glitches which counterpoint the open, airy chords and sparse notes Gaetano plays. Think of a desert, or an icy plateau, or even some stalactited-stalagmited fairytale-like cavern near the centre of a hollow earth, and you’ll get the picture.
“Babbling in Tongues” opens with low soundscapes and glitchy percussions under which ominous chords come and go. Some distant guitar sounds and notes work like searchlights in a borealis night, as clouds roll by and everything is left suspended. Until percussion stops and the soundscapes and chords fade out into the night.
The fourth track is “Ghostown.” It opens with a reverberation of noise and watery sounds that morph into some unknown code from the outer space. Distant rumblings repeat over and again, as the noise mounts into something like smothered blast. Pure noise here, no recognizable sounds of guitar or any other everyday instruments, and yes what you’ll hear is undeniably sound which creates multidimensional environments and which remind us that there’s no difference between noise and music but in our minds and hearts.
“Golden Afternoon” releases the previous tension with sweet, boundless ambient sounds on which gentle guitar notes weave ethereal landscapes. Melody and harmony claim their right to existence, a right Gaetano is more than willing to grant to them with this six-minute track which feels like watching the earth from a silent glider swooshing in the blue sky. Everything is smooth and edgeless here, as if this track were the other side of the coin you’ve been acquainted with so far. The calm after the storm, maybe, or even the other way round, the calm before the storm.
The release ends with “Bralphig”, a track where distant high-pitched wails emerge from under low background sounds, as the song of whales could do at the bottom of the oceans. The usual glitchy percussion add a level of ‘earthness’ to a track which beautifully closes a splendid release for the ambient of the future.

Sonicstash (1981) is a producer, composer and Dj from Greece.
He attended classes of Byzantine music for 5 years and later he studied Music Technology & Acoustics at ATEI of Crete with emphasis on sound synthesis,
composure & production of electronic music and programming of interactive sound systems.
From 2005 he started to perform his own music mostly Live Electronics with algorithms developed by him.
At the same time he composed and produced his first album "Autumn" 2006 and made his first steps on electronic dance music.
Now days he performs Live Act and Dj sets focused on Deep, Funky and Progressive House and Electro Techno.
He is also one of the leading Djs and member of the organization team of 1200m Electronic Culture Music Festival at Greece.
He currently lives and works at London.

Dimitris aka "Meatsauce" Perontsis was born in Thessaloniki in 1987,
he is a sound engineer graduate
while he is DJing in various bars and DIY raves
along with his sound system - party team named "ΖΩΑ".
He started producing drum and bass in 2009
and after a lot of experiments his first release comes with the Liquid Seed Recordings.

Using hip hop sampling techniques, recording real instruments and messing around with LFOs and generators,
his music is a deep dark liquid seed that wishes to drop upon all heads in and out of the dance floor.

The release opens with ‘Engines Off’, where sparse electric piano notes are glitched in an imaginary landing by a starship on an unknown planet. The alien atmosphere continues with strange chords until an unever rhythm track kicks in, just to disappear some minutes later. Now the starship is ready to take off again. Unless it has come to the planet to stay.
‘The Passage’ opens with a repeated minimal organ pattern sounding like... the antiphon to an arcane religious ritual. An eerie melody interacts with the pattern, accompanying the listeners/voyagers in the passage through which they have to walk in this travel. Some rhythm tracks counterpoint the church-like organ sounds, as if a subterranean train was just passing by in the distance. but the voyagers must walk to their destination, and so any rhythm disappears until the end, where only floating sounds are to be heard.
In the third track, ‘Ghosts on a Carousel’, ghosts ride the rusty hobbyhorses of an abandoned carousel. The echoed piano melody backs up distant guitar notes as the dead carousel spins and spins on the empty sea promenade.
The longest track in the release, ‘Doll’s House in an Attic’, kicks off with a mesmerising electric piano ostinato which sets the spinning-top mood of the music going. Guitar lines interact with the repeated notes, creating ambient textures and soundscapes that give depth to the music. when the ostinato stops, a kind of quirky jazzy improvisation follows. Sparse notes of piano and guitar like in smoky clubs at the end of dark alleys. Then it’s back to the initial theme, towards an entropic end.
The title track starts with deep echoing notes from the bottom of ancient caves. Sinister whispers and guitar soundscapes appear from nowhere, clusters of chords and glitches take the sonic landscape to other dimensions, where sound floats free and drifts into nothingness.
‘On the Deck of the Drunken Boat’, the last track in the release, is an offering of multi-echoed piano notes which fall and sprinkle and cavort like motes in the air. Some jazzy touch in the melodies and the phasing herald the long, distorted notes of the guitar, which soar above the piano, in the distance. then it’s again night-time quirky, echoed jazz, until closing time, as it were, when we go back to the same eerie levity it all began with.

The Colossus of Rhodes was a statue of the Greek Titan Helios, erected in the city of Rhodes, on the Greek island of the same name, by Chares of Lindos in 280 BC. It is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was constructed to celebrate Rhodes' victory over the ruler of Cyprus, Antigonus I Monophthalmus, whose son unsuccessfully besieged Rhodes in 305 BC. Before its destruction in the earthquake of 226 BC, the Colossus of Rhodes stood over 30 meters (98.4 ft) high, making it one of the tallest statues of the ancient world.

Lemurs are strepsirrhine primates endemic to the island of Madagascar. Fossil records suggest that lemurs reached the shores of Madagascar by crossing the ocean in vegetation rafts. While their ancestors competed with monkeys and other primates in continental Africa, lemurs were able to evolve free from competition. This allowed them to differentiate from other species. The word lemur derives from the Latin lemures, which means "night spirit" or "ghost" and was probably coined due to the fact that these are nocturnal animals.

Lisbon-based Lemur was a "ragingly instrumental rock band", active between 2003 and 2006 and since hibernated. During that brief period of time they played about fifteen shows, sharing the stage with bands like Brainwashed by Amália, Katabatic, Bypass, Ölga, The Allstar Project, Frango and Puget Sound. They self-released a demo CD and later released an eponymous EP through the Merzbau netlabel. They also contributed to compilations such as "Animal Repetitivo", from the 2005 Out.Fest – an "exploratory music" festival which included Lemur in its first two editions – and "Can Take You Anywhere You Want", a release featuring Bor Land acts. Lemur went on to record exclusively for Borland three songs that have remained unreleased until this day.

Lemur's long slumber is now over: they are digitally releasing all their recordings, including previously unavailable tracks, in a joint effort between Enough Records and Associação Terapêutica do Ruído. The songs will be available for download at no cost. Lemur will also return to the stage (16 November 2013) to celebrate the 10 years of Sonic Fest, the festival they created with Brainwashed by Amália and where they played their first gig in July 2003.

For his second D-TRASH release (and 5th solo release), composer Will Northlich-Redmond - aka BlipVert - delves deeper into his hyperactive glitch-cartoon universe. While the nightmarish sound collages characteristic of past BlipVert records are omnipresent, the eight tracks on Wax Cathartic span a wide range of textures and ideas such as intense cross-cultural works for Taiko drums and Middle Eastern horn ensembles, fractured death metal, and alien choirs. The resulting experience is a dramatic and disturbing sonic paroxysm that gets under the skin....and stays there.

After the United Kingdom and France, perhaps the most promising rising force of the Reggae & Dub scene in the European world of vibes is Spain. One of the most talented new artists is without doubt Jennifer Paulos and it is really a pleasure to present her latest work on our netlabel.

Born in Ponferrada, Spain, the Hispano-Swiss-Portuguese artist has started releasing her first works back in 2010 with Hide Side on “Corrupzion in Zion” (2010) and since then she is moving only forwards. The collaborations with the local Spanish artist Dub Presidents, who produced her first album “The trial of the Self” (2010), as well as with Mystic Selectah (2012) from Madrid, were the starting point in her musical path. It was only a matter of time she would accomplish her international breakthrough through her collaborations with Izi Dub (FR) and Hi Fi Champion (CAN) in 2013.

Her first work on Dubophonic is called “Revolution” and consists of nine tracks of pure consciousness, among them a version of a classic Tappa Zukie tune. Sang in Spanish and English, she uses her warm voice as a trademark of her Mediterranean oriented sound spreading to all listeners the funky vibes of her soul. Alongside with her you can find some exclusive dubs by the Dub Presidents (ES), Svaha Sound System (UK), Mat DT Sound (FR) / Woody Vibes (FR) / Cloud of Vib's (FR) & Mystic Selectah (SP), as well as a special bonus track by Dave Doma (ES). We say no more, just enjoy the vibes of Jennifer’s music and feel the consciousness of her lyrics.
