All sounds used for creation of the album were taken from "Peer Gynt" suite by Edvard Grieg. Also the concept and the titles are inspired by Henrik Ibsen's dramatic interpretation of the myth. The music is sometimes harsh but mostly shows at least partially the classic gems that were used for the creation. The style can be broadly put under "folk" since the main instrument used here is the acoustic guitar. However the tunes vary between short solo melodies, dense sparkling soundscapes or hollow, echoing murmurs. Electric guitar is used to some extent, as well as occasional flutes, improvised percussion or a droning bass. On top of them instrumental samples, not matching, struggling, emerging and dissolving, merging into a heap of noise. The vocals growl, groan and whine, the noise becomes almost unbearable. By themselves, the samples could be perceived as normal, even pretty. Combined into this chaotic noise, they are only relentless. I found a tape of songs about hunting in a thrift store and that gave me an idea. The 4 long compositions here, constructed from slowed down hunting songs, tape hiss, wildlife sounds, self-hypnosis tapes and hunting trumpet signals, are supposed to picture the majesty and mystery of a primeval forest. This was my first album which I dare call professional." SOT45
"Halali" sets the mood with amassed wildlife sounds and hunting trumpets. "Hubert's passion interrupted"shimmers with gentle choirs, trumpets answer from great distance, then suddenly a playful accordion appears, only to be overtaken by echoing birds and looped Halali. "Leibolmai" starts with overlayed self-hypnosis tape and changes the atmosphere to heavy, more sinister - a disjointed drum loop plays in the background, accompanied by strange jazz outbursts. Bass rolls over and suddenly the trumpets and voices join in again for the finale. Songs 1-7 are simply voice and guitar, some songs sounding almost traditional and catchy. Being a musician & bass player himself, he has always been exploring the sound of the bass, trying to travel into new territories on his effort to establish his own sound. On the process of exploring the bass territory, he had joined many bands and created numerous side-projects, from punk to hip hop.
Nevertheless, dub has always been his main goal.
Inspired by the originality of roots dub and influenced by the modern dub steppa scene, he began to produce and public his tracks online. He made his debut release in 2013 and continued with many collaborations and releases. This is the first time he collaborates with Dubophonic.
Sunjaman’s style can’t be described by one musical genre. It combines many elements of bass music, such as dubstep, jungle, steppa, roots, dubwise. This is eminent in this 7-track EP, consisting of three original tracks and four alternative cuts.
Nuff respect to Northical from the Greek band Kako Synapantima for vocalising “Heavyweight Sound”, as well as Manwel T from Dubkey Netlabel for his version of “Outta Here”. Big shout out also to Jungle Raiders for a very energetic jungle cut of “Witness the day”. But in any mean I could stop the label without putting all my efforts in trying to offer a last groundbreaking release. So, for this last session I've contacted various artists I love, from all around the world, to ask them to create / send a track they feel to be related with the theme of the abyss. I give them a white card to submit what could be their ideal soundtrack for a diving to the darkest depths of the ocean.
35 of them answered positively to this request and send 36 - believe me - absolutely awesome tracks, covering a wide range of styles and BPM.
As I really wanted this compilation to sound and look professional, I've asked to Arnaud Ruffieux (Ruff-Tang Laboratories / Switzerland) to provide the mastering for the tracks and Arnaud Coeffic aka Arco / Sonic Area (France) to create the artwork of the release.
The final result of all these concerted efforts is this incredible 3 CDs compilation, available for free, and just waiting for you to hit the download button and PLAY IT OUT LOUD!
Honestly, I couldn't hope more for a last release! Yes, dear friends and listeners, you've guessed it, this means Chase Records will stops its activities with that 60th and LAST release.
But in any mean I could stop the label without putting all my efforts in trying to offer a last groundbreaking release. So, for this last session I've contacted various artists I love, from all around the world, to ask them to create / send a track they feel to be related with the theme of the abyss. I give them a white card to submit what could be their ideal soundtrack for a diving to the darkest depths of the ocean.
35 of them answered positively to this request and send 36 - believe me - absolutely awesome tracks, covering a wide range of styles and BPM.
As I really wanted this compilation to sound and look professional, I've asked to Arnaud Ruffieux (Ruff-Tang Laboratories / Switzerland) to provide the mastering for the tracks and Arnaud Coeffic aka Arco / Sonic Area (France) to create the artwork of the release.
The final result of all these concerted efforts is this incredible 3 CDs compilation, available for free, and just waiting for you to hit the download button and PLAY IT OUT LOUD!
Honestly, I couldn't hope more for a last release! So I would like to thank every contributing artists, as I would also like to thank all the previous Chase Records artists, friends, contributors and listeners during those 9 years of pure experience in the awesome world of hard and dark electronic music.

There’s virtually no melody in these tracks and no rhythm, either, for no rhythmelodical coordinates are to be found in the regions the duo explore this time.
Alternately choking in desperation or floating in blissful oblivion, it is very difficult to remember that all these dark sounds are originated by such homely, apparently harmless instruments as acoustic piano, acoustic and electric guitars. A warning, if you like, that even the most ordinary objects or ideas may reveal dark sides one has never thought of.
The album begins with “The Story so Far”. Distant, ominous sounds which can herald the end of the world, or the opening of a chasm ready to swallow us all. Sounds which are rumbles, like the tail of a comet could generate, if only sound was possible in space.
Basically a track on how to get mad at the hands of ruling power, “Room 101” evokes the dystopic world of George Orwell’s novel ‘1984’. The piercing sounds remind us of the electroshock Winston Smith must suffer and the piano strings, strummed and caressed, are the sound image of a prisoner’s psyche going to fuck. the piercing sounds continue in a crescendo of rhythmless hysteria, only to be interrupted by bangs that reverberate. Not a drum, but the piano wooden frame being punched and kicked. An ordeal for the listener and a reminder that 2 plus 2 is not always 4.
Ancient books say Enochian was the language of the angels, and we all know angels weren’t the chubby babies or elfin figures of centuries of religious painting. Angels were terrible creatures one had better not to mess with. “Enochian” is nothing but a conversation between such creatures. What they’re speaking of is not for us to know, of course. We can only let ourselves be carried away by these tinkling, echoing sounds and try to feel, since understanding is out of the question here.
“A Moment of False Revelation” is when everything dissolves and reveals its true, frightening nature. Consequently, every sound in the track morphs into something else, as if taken in a vertigo of alien radio signals. It is the dropping of the mask. Everything appears for what it really is: a cacophony of dimensions where any utopia is impossible. No sense to look for a melody, a rhythm, a beginning and an end, when everything is on their way to crunch and go back to moment zero.
“Event Horizon”, or the feeling of being prisoners on a threshold for what looks like an eternity, unable to take a step forward or back and avoid the final collapse or jump into it and finally disappear. The sounds here create the hopelessness experienced on the rim of a black hole, just before one’s body begins to elongate and be sucked in by the invisible monster. The sounds are deep and disturbing, for this is the voice of a dead star.
Unlike Odysseus, the only mast we can ask to be tied to is the mast of hopelessness. no chance to avoid the mesmerising power of these cosmic mermaids. “Tie me to the Mast of Unhope” is the first track in the release with something like rhythm in it. Just a Morse code which sounds like a battalion of crickets chirruping against a background drone which is the cosmic sea our boat unsteadily sails on.
The last track in the release, “The Awakening”, is based on the short story of the same name written by Tony Colina. The Italian version of the story was published by Navarra Editore in 2012, as part of a collection of short stories on the Mayan prophecy of 2012.
The English version of the story is part of this release, as an e-book version. Here the guitar is predominant and it creates the perfect soundscapes to the feeling of a story whose subject is the end of the world. The voice reads some sentences and some out-of-tune acoustic guitar chords add to the feeling of desperation the protagonist finds himself in. only towards the end of the long track rhythm steps in, amid a cacophony of piano and guitar, which accompany the journey of the protagonist to the centre of the earth and back. Yes, back, but back to … where? Back to … when?
