Don’t get fooled by the title of Sucu Music’s new offering, which is Italian for “Morning Mists”. Stephen Briggs is a guitarist from New Zealand whose inspiration seems to be international, judging by the multilingual titles he gives to his tracks. “Nebbie Mattutine” is a very fine example of guitar-oriented ambient and soundscapes album, ranging from quiet, gentle sounds to noisier, darker tracks which add new dimensions to his sound palette.

The first track, Hola (Spanish for Hello) falls in the category of smooth, relaxed soundscapes and guitar textures which are ideal to convey the idea of such a morning and a landscape as that pictured in the sleev of this album. The track creates an atmosphere of expectation and adrift-ness which goes on uninterruptedly until the end as a lullaby from a faraway planet.

“Una Volta” (Italian, again, for Once Upon a Time) follows the path created by Hola. Again, we have aerial melodies of acoustic and electric guitar (this latter with some Evening Star era Fripp echoes). The absence of rhythm adds to the spacey nature of this music, which rolls on like peaceful cascades of dry ice from azure cliffs. A perfect soundtrack for daydreaming.

In “Hash e Ovos” the atmosphere is darker, the acoustic and electric sounds are more sinister, although never gloomy, and the feeling you get is like being sucked into a fairy-like cave of wonders and unexpected suprises. A gentle acoustic guitar arpeggio is offset by electric sounds and the journey passes across galaxies and stars to the next space station and the next adventure.

“Fuzz en Karbonades” shows a spacey fuzz guitar soloing on acoustic guitar chords. Echoes of Ash Ra Tempel or even 69-70 Pink Floyd hoover along this dreaming track which would be best listened to sitting on the top of a hill at sunset, or dawn.

“Lystighed” (don’t ask me what it means) features melodies of echoing guitars that create a gentle ambience for a couple of minutes. Then the atmosphere changes, it becomes more suspended, foreboding doom or the dawning of a new star. Distortion like spaceship engines roaring past in time and space warps. After that, we’re back to the opening dimension, with the melodies we left and the gentle soothing sounds of guitars lulling us into a deeper state of comprehension.

“Grandiosità” is Italian for Grandeur. And grandeur and vastness is what comes into mind on listening to these boundless sounds. Something like Edmund Burke’s theories on Sublime as something immense, vast, which fascinates and terrorizes us at the same time. Images of blue deserts where ruins of crystal pyramids crop out of the sand. On the horizon, three white suns and silent wakes of alien shooting stars. For this is when it is beautiful to get lost in the wilderness.

The title track, “Nebbie Mattutine” (Morning Mists) takes the listener to a plateau from which the whole world can be seen. The sound seems to breathe or blow like a gentle breeze, and it is the pure magic of chords that creates rhythm-less eternity. From afar, suspended notes map unseen routes and the feeling is like gliding on a warm afternoon.

The closing track, aptly named “Fin” (French for The End) recapitulates the ethereal mood of the whole album, with sparse notes that seem to lie down on a magic carpet of chords. The album closes with a sort of elegiac note which invites to introspection and reflection “until the last syllable of recorded time” and beyond.

ARKADY GOTESMAN:

Arkady Gotesman isn’t a standard artist: many consider him a jazzman and percussion virtuoso, but it is almost impossible to pinpoint what it is that he does. Yet Gotesman himself seems to be rather nonchalant about this; he clearly is a man of action and practice, able and willing to try the challenges that arise when working in different formats – not only the diverse world of music, but also theater and literature.
The main features of this artist – an extraordinary range of activity and the ability to instantly listen into his partners’ – whoever they are – music, speaking, writing or object making. This characteristic is crucial for a good jazz musician, whose reaction and intuition must never lose contact with the present moment, be able to foresee and creatively complement.
On jazz scene, Gotesman has collaborated with the following musicians:

ANDREI RAZIN :

A graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, composer, pianist and arranger,
Andrei Razin was destined for the career of an academic musician,
but his creative interests have a much wider range.
He produced music scores for the theatrical performances, modern chamber instrumental
and vocal music,
jazz compositions, music for TV shows and advertisement videos.
Andrei Razin
performed with Arkady Shilkloper, Mike Ellis, Aleksei Kozlov, Vladimir Chekasin, Roswell Rudd, Klaus Kugel etc.
Andrei Razin was also awarded the "Composer of the year" (2002)
awards by Russian Jazz Journalists Association.
As a leader of Second Approach Trio (new-jazz, modern creative)
Andrei Razin performed in Germany, Finland, Norway, Lithuania, Israel, Austria, USA, etc.

ALEXEY MIKRYUKOV:

Alexei Mikryukov aka King Imagine was born in 1972. His first song was sung and recorded at the age of 4. He began his career in music as a gutarist in the punk collective Zooy E Orchestar in 1989. In the same period some of the first bootleg recordings were made, all of them now lost. In the summer of 1993 he meets Eugene Alexandrov, with whom organizes The Schizotronics..and records solo. In 1996 together with the Kiev poet Danylo Kubai,he founds the noise industrial group Ilam, Inc. (or, rather a noise orchestra with 13 musicians, which gave an incredibly insane concert in the Kiev Actors House of Culture) and also the project Rooteniya Pe Since 1998 cooperates as sound engineer with the first Ukrainian reggae/dub group Rootmans Band, Karina Kuznetsova (with whom he works to this day) and the bass guitarist Kirill Machinski aka Roots Controlla, with whom he founds the digital roots dub project Dub Compressors. In 1999 together with the composer Alexander Kohanovski aka Pankifared he starts the studio project Superapes, recording 2 albums, making experiments with electronic and ambient music, as well as composing music for escalators, elevators and corridors. Since 2004 actively cooperates with Foa Hoka as sound producer, remixer and contributor of music. Since 2005 releases his output on the d.i.y. CD-R label SKP Records (Kiev). Since 2006 actively cooperates w/International movement Ukr.tele.kom - as remixer, co-author and remastering engineer.

A massive album of drifting ambient music available on 4 CD package and download.

More is an album of music inspired by Manchester, my home town.
The city is hectic and noisy and full of every kind of person from around the world. And I live very close to the centre. While it is constantly busy here, I can escape into my light and airy little studio.

This album is a product of this great city and that is reflected in the sound - it is drifting and ambient but also gritty and pretty loud in places.

There is a reinterpretation of my song Where I Stand (from Nothing For Miles) plus a poem from Robert Matejko aka Robby Baby Dark Poet of Amour (recorded by Karl Hamilton) inspired by my music and a vivid dream Robby once had about The Sun.

Anxiety is distinguished from fear, which is an appropriate cognitive and emotional response to a perceived threat and is related to the specific behaviors of fight-or-flight responses, defensive behavior or escape. Anxiety occurs in situations only perceived as uncontrollable or unavoidable, but not realistically so. David Barlow defines anxiety as "a future-oriented mood state in which one is ready or prepared to attempt to cope with upcoming negative events," and that it is a distinction between future and present dangers which divides anxiety and fear. Another description of anxiety is agony, dread, terror, or even apprehension. In positive psychology, anxiety is described as the mental state that results from a difficult challenge for which the subject has insufficient coping skills.

Fear and anxiety can be differentiated in four domains: (1) duration of emotional experience, (2) temporal focus, (3) specificity of the threat, and (4) motivated direction. Fear is defined as short lived, present focused, geared towards a specific threat, and facilitating escape from threat; while anxiety is defined as long acting, future focused, broadly focused towards a diffuse threat, and promoting excessive caution while approaching a potential threat and interferes with constructive coping.

Symptoms of anxiety can range in number, intensity, and frequency, depending on the person. While almost everyone has experienced anxiety at some point in their lives, most do not develop long-term problems with anxiety.

The behavioral effects of anxiety may include withdrawal from situations which have provoked anxiety in the past. Anxiety can also be experienced in ways which include changes in sleeping patterns, nervous habits, and increased motor tension like foot tapping.

The emotional effects of anxiety may include "feelings of apprehension or dread, trouble concentrating, feeling tense or jumpy, anticipating the worst, irritability, restlessness, watching (and waiting) for signs (and occurrences) of danger, and, feeling like your mind's gone blank" as well as "nightmares/bad dreams, obsessions about sensations, deja vu, a trapped in your mind feeling, and feeling like everything is scary."

The cognitive effects of anxiety may include thoughts about suspected dangers, such as fear of dying. "You may ... fear that the chest pains are a deadly heart attack or that the shooting pains in your head are the result of a tumor or aneurysm. You feel an intense fear when you think of dying, or you may think of it more often than normal, or can't get it out of your mind.

Fernando Laub (aka flaub) is a composer and visual artist native from Buenos Aires Argentina and Austrian origin who designs and builds his own musical instruments.

With the aim of compiling sonic substance and creating new devices from old industrial machines and recycled scrap, he spent several years living into an abandoned factory reconditioned as a sound laboratory.

Among those indoor quests he use to travel around the world documenting sonic and visual material from jungles to urban situations. This way his music not only describes pictures, it will transport you to a sort of surreal scenarios, images that are quite difficult to define.

Brian Peter George St. John Le Baptiste de la Salle Eno once wrote: "I found myself in a position not to hear about the disc. I turned so what for me was a new way to listen to music as a part of the surrounding environment, as it were, on this occasion, the color of the light and the sound of the rain "... it was the mid-70 's, a period that brought with itself if a new listening modes, subdued and discreet. A way of understanding the sound that continues to spread joy in listening as bearer of quiet and intense sensations. Laverna has always devoted his catalogue to the exploration of this world, a universe full of experimentation and variety of musical styles, a reality in which traveling suspended in the imperceptible breeze of Silence. Rooms Delayed aka Vincenzo Nazzaro, chose to walk this path using the classical method that allows the abandonment while listening: "Flickering traces" is Ambient with a capital A, filtered through the six electrical cords to vibrate, analog and digital pedals, nothing more. A sonic mood admirably captured through the use of direct recording that makes this release extremely real and human, far from all that busy proceeding behind a console of Macbooks and digital effects. Listening to the 5 tracks that compose "Flickering traces" you enjoy the full taste forgot hot sound and comfortable, you let the repeat mode continues to send its message without interruption allowing listening to penetrate deeper, ever deeper, into the very essence of the music and images created by it. Rooms Delayed and "... the color of the light and the sound of the rain".

Four artists remixing each other once again, resulting in sixteen new electronic music creations.
The creativity of each individual artist was used to produce an original composition, which was then shared with the others. Each artist remixed the three tracks from the others, so the result consist of four original tracks and twelve remixes.

The graphics for each track represents both the artist and the remixer - the upper left letter represents the original artist and the lower right letter represents the remixer.

Koncrete Roots’ style can be described as a deeply rooted dub sound with a modern day steppa twist. This twist makes all the difference and gives an electro dubness to their traditional rootical sound introducing some great vibes to the massive, entering into the new year.

From the meditative “River Jordan” to the rootical electro steppas like ‘Inity Step” and “Sound Killah”, Koncrete Roots deliver their message of dubness and irieness into the year 2014. Not withstanding his versions of two old time classics, the UK producer seems like a sound warrior, armed with deep basslines and organic melodies like in “Universal dub”, marching to destroy Babylon on his way to Zion.

Two Blastculture tracks feature in this release from the Toucan Music netlabel. No1 Is Safe combines pumping house beats with minimal effects and a dark, sinister break in the middle to keep those dancefloors pumping late into the night. Another late night epic, Speak Out introduces shuffling, garage influenced beats as the backdrop to more Blastculture effects trickery, with spoken vocals weaving in between flange effects.
