“After the storm” fills the air with rarefied guitar notes supported in the beginning by a substratum of vibrating bowls which becomes more and more prominent as the song goes on and fades to the end.

“Beginnings” lets the gong take its spotlight, leading glitches and guitar gusts as the song evolves in thousands directions willing to fill the air surrounding us.

“Chiaroscuro” is the pièce de résistance of the whole platter. Within its 23 minutes you will be taken by the hand and transported in the minds of the two musicians, an extracorporeal transmutation from listener to performer in which we become the director of everything that’s going on around and inside us.

“From nothing” bring us back to earth like a gentle wind born from the soundwaves of the song itself, taking us wherever our minds are willing to be.

“Thai Chi” ends the experience with a choir of singing bowls entering our ears and vibrating our brains, while the guitar draws paths of notes leading the way to the awareness of our present and future immortal self.

'Welcome to the Temple' is a cascade of looping guitar sounds which sometimes sound as if Fripp's frippertronics were removed from their urban context and suspended in mid-air, sometimes change into heralds of impending news whose nature the addressee can only surmise. The overall tone is clear and hypnotic and the rhythm the looping chords create does not stray from a mid-pace lull which caresses the senses.
An abrupt stop introduces acoustic-like sounds processed into the sonic equivalent of ripples on a lake disturbed now and then by short shocks of distortion like stones skipping on the surface of the water. Another change of scene brings forth chords and droning notes. This is the heart of psychedelia here, perhaps the inner sanctum of the temple in the title. Everything is looped and repeated, no doubt to make sure the listener may experience a sort of mystic ascent. As the track approaches its end, the chords become longer and longer, no more ripples but waves, brainwaves, space waves, you name it.

'Myth-Mystic' explores the possibilities of guitar notes and sounds steeped in delay and reverb. Space loses any sense of dimension and the sparse, gentle notes rebound this way and that with no hurry nor worry. Fragmets of bluesy licks like nuggets from the past wind their way through this boundless space, and the feeling is that of an introspective chat Lenzi's having with himself and all those who want to take part in it. In the final section of the track gentle chords open and echo. The myth is here, the mystic surrounds it, and the currents ripple again.

'Lysergic' begins with what we can describe as a journey underground. Not to the centre of the earth, maybe, but surely to one of those caves full of giant crystals like in old sci-fi movies. Loops of electric and acoustic guitars add unrest to the initial, somewhat suspended, atmosphere. Melody is banished in this feast of sounds in which waves roll and notes chase one after the other. The acoustic guitar add a somewhat bucolic dimension to the scenery, but it doesn't last long. Midway into the track we're back into our underground world of adventures, in a part of it which sounds darker and more ominous than before, the part that could be inhabited by those creatures of the mind this music conjures up. For the first time real rhythm, albeit heavily processed, creates the backbone to a tangled melody like those only goblins could create. The journey becomes noisier than before. The temperature gets hotter, as it were, as we descend further down, and then everything fades out and the end of the trip will be known only tho those who go on it.

Mental Damage http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Mental+Damage/20613 Thu, 04 Feb 2021 10:46:14 +0100 <h5>released on Sucu Music by Art Electronix</h5><img src="http://sonicsquirrel.net/asset/image/release/20613/75" /><br /><p>released on Sucu Music by Art Electronix</p>Art Electronix are back with their stripped-down, back-to-basics form of electronic music, and they show again their mastery at creating post-fallout atmospheres using the minimum instrumentation, without getting lost in uslesess padding out and embellishments of any sorts.
Raw (nuclear) energy and creativity at (radioactive) work here, in the eight tracks which make up this twenty-nine minutes’ trip to Mental Damage.

“X-Ray” is the starting track in the album. A sound frequency, ominous in its immobility, introduces us in what can’t but be a dark, underground tunnel where the remains of some nuclear blast rot and decay. Geiger-counter glitches create a sort of beat in the second part of the track, when low noises and soundscapes of nondescript nature add to the eerie atmosphere of the track.

In “Stuff from Shelter” the beat of a rhythm box sets a danceable pace, provided you want to dance in the fallout, on a distant, deserted industrial area, that is. No melody or catchy chorus here. Just the screeching of metal rubbing on metal and the usual brewing of synthesizers in search of radioactive activity. A rave party for the post-nuclear-age lost, on the green dawn of a new day, where mutant people in white protective overalls plod around, oblivious to the effects the new air has on them.

“Pixel Building”: quirky beats, although in four-fourths and danceable, seem to come up from the bottom of an alien ocean, only to take a dive again in its abyss. Eerie sounds and bleeps and glitches counterpoint the submarine rhythm and add a sort of airy dimension to the track, like talking clouds floating overhead. Do not look for any sing-along melody here, for this is not the right place for it. Think of flying saucers on patrol, spinning dervishly in mid-air, mesmerised by the wilderness below before reporting it all to their mothership.

“Outside” introduces distant drones and face-to-face percussive sounds which little by little build up a beat only the most daring among you could think of dancing to. Outside of what? Some bunker, maybe? Report to base, do you copy me? The end of rhythm at the end of the track does not give any hope of recovery.

“Manual heart” kicks off with a steady beat created by bass drums and synthesizers. Swoops and whooshes of sounds fly across the aural space as the rhythm increases its power and presence. No straying from the initial atmosphere of the track, just sounds creeping in and out of the hammering rhythm. Everything pared down to almost zero degree, yet one senses this is the way this track has to be. Anything else would just be spurious and useless.

“Ejection” is a jamboree of rhythm on drones and fluttering sounds. Ejected from the core of a marooned space station, maybe. The spluttering noises of some machinery gasping their last before expiring completely, the sense of utter isolation in an unknown quadrant of one’s own existence. There’s even some distant voicing, but do not hope for rescue. They’re just old recordings of a crew who is no more.

“Magnetit”: a train rolling on a radioactive desert, the instruments droning and bleeping, and an almost inaudible voice repeating some incomprehensible info. Nothing to see out of the dirty windows but desolation and destruction. This train rolls on and on, oblivious of whatever still slithers or flies or trudges around. It terminates at a station from which no other departures are scheduled.

“Emitter” is the last track in the album, and in a sense it takes us back to the point the work had started, so that the circle is closed. Just rhythm, synthesized bass and soundscapes. The usual noises and whoops and the usual, claustrophobic atmospheres which are the band’s trademark. Very hypnotic and entrancing in its bareness.

Taking the tempo to half speed and adding dubby hip hop beats, the mix of Outer Self adds trippy filters to the original drum & bass breaks to create a spaced out trip hop vibe. The remix of Travels In The North keeps the original piano and strings, adding deep sub bass and glitchy trap style beats to bring it up to date.

On a Winter Day is a state of mind, where everything may seem frozen to the eyes but not to the soul.
It is that right time to slow down and let the nature and the heart speak.
It is a deep journey where every emotion is dilated.

“And I will say” welcomes us like a sweet waking up through waves of blankets, with Gaetano singing a sort of good morning lullaby, setting the mood for the entirety of the platter.

“Like blurred shapes” is like an instrumental representation of eye floaters pleasantly impairing your inner vision, which then disappears in “Shadows and paper walls” where, thanks to the notes of an acoustic guitar, we are transported to a dimension where everything is twilight and confused shapes around the corners. “About anti-entropic fields” and “Memory lapses” are disordered flashes of utter remembrance, hitting you from everywhere.

“Been to the ship wreck” is just as the title says, a blindfolded trip with hands behind your back to a place where everything is no more, where everything is useless and forgotten.

And then you could slowly dance forever to the sweet notes of “She never dance” with someone who doesn’t want to, and maybe just wants to look to the “Crescent over waters” with you, as long as the music and the reversed guitars resound, and then turning both of you in “Red shifted lovers” floating amidst ethereal intangible waves.

And then you come back to earth, “On a winter day”, where everything is sparse, cold, calm, clear and frozen in time; just a white snapshot of a white pleasant noise.

And then, after all, you feel “Safe from this world”, as Gaetano comes back again singing words of soothing resolution for a one day journey which ends in piano notes made to lull your thoughts.
And then everything ends with “Resonances”, in neverending singing bowls destined to take you to another level of being: bodyless, motionless, harmless.

Coming Out http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Coming+Out/20597 Thu, 03 Dec 2020 09:32:46 +0100 <h5>released on Sucu Music by TNKS</h5><img src="http://sonicsquirrel.net/asset/image/release/20597/75" /><br /><p>released on Sucu Music by TNKS</p>The Sicilian two-piece TNKS' new album, 'Coming Out', is an elegant, cleverly produced example of electronica where all textural, melodic and rhythmic elements merge seamlessly one in to another with the simplicity of something which couldn't possibly be any other way.

Impressionistic moments made up of piano and sampled voices crop out of rhythmic sections which are never frantic, thus creating the sense of green, Japanese-like, gardens in the heart of future metropolises where flyers silently zoom overhead.

The work, produced by the band - Francesco Palermo and Eric Cinà - and Federico Di Gangi, who also plays piano in the last track, aptly entitled 'Federpiano', consists of seven tracks whose duration exceeds five minutes only in one case (Surfing) and whose melodic nature reveals a song-oriented approach that one doesn't usually associates with electronic music.

The overall impression is of a work where, as they say, 'less is more'.

There's no overproduction at play here - which is always a sign of intelligence at work - and the music can breathe and expand in subtle intriguing ways.

A very pleasant journey which ends with the above-mentioned 'Federpiano', the most ambient, watercolour-like track in this highly recommended work, which Sucumusic will also be presenting on the next Net Label Day, on 1th July.

Luonto http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Luonto/20594 Thu, 03 Dec 2020 09:28:13 +0100 <h5>released on TexturalHealing by Thuoom</h5><img src="http://sonicsquirrel.net/asset/image/release/20594/75" /><br /><p>released on TexturalHealing by Thuoom</p>Luonto is the eight proper Thuoom album. As the other full-length album released on the same day (Natur under the monicker Thuuooom) the sounds on this record consist 100% of nature field recordings. The recordings contain mostly birds but you can also hear bumblebees, deer, fishes mating, hints of human voices, small insects, sounds of walking through forest, wind, and windchime. Some of the tracks stay faithful to the sounds heard in nature (albeit in edited form), others mutate them into proper forestelektro.

Instruments used on this record: Field recordings captured with a binaural Soundman OKM II Classic Solo microphone attached to a Zoom H4n Pro portable recorder.<p>Tags:<a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/browse/release/tag/"></a>, </p><p>License: <a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0">Creative Commons | by-nc-nd</a></p><p>m3u: <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/20594">http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/20594</a><br />zip: <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/20594">http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/20594</a></p><p>Release page: <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Luonto/20594">http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Luonto/20594</a><br />Label page: <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/TexturalHealing/1665">http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/TexturalHealing/1665</a></p>
Natur http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Natur/20593 Thu, 03 Dec 2020 09:27:08 +0100 <h5>released on TexturalHealing by Thuuooom</h5><img src="http://sonicsquirrel.net/asset/image/release/20593/75" /><br /><p>released on TexturalHealing by Thuuooom</p>Natur is the fourth proper Thuuooom album, showcasing the more ambient side of Tuomo. As the other full-length album released on the same day (Luonto under the monicker Thuoom) the sounds on this record consist 100% of nature field recordings. The recordings contain mostly birds but you can also hear bumblebees, deer, fishes mating, hints of human voices, small insects, sounds of walking through forest, wind, and windchime. Or maybe you can't hear them, as the sounds have been mutated into something completely else.

Not for the faint of heart, absolutely for the sonic explorer.

Bralitz Vol. 3 http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Bralitz+Vol.+3/20589 Fri, 31 Jul 2020 14:01:39 +0200 <h5>released on djummi-records by aaahhchestra</h5><img src="http://sonicsquirrel.net/asset/image/release/20589/75" /><br /><p>released on djummi-records by aaahhchestra</p>Bralitz 2014 was special. Well, Bralitz is always special. But 2014 - „Aaahhwoo" - probably was our most distinctive and fun festival. Being our first two day festival, it took a lot of work preparing it. We even built an outside stage with our own hands, while getting eaten by mosquitoes.

Still we managed to record some music during the week. For the first time there was a song with German lyrics - that's special, too.

Bralitz connoisseurs will surely miss Nicolas Falcon's trade mark voice and songwriting - he couldn't be there that year. But he will be back for one of the next chapters!<p>Tags:<a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/browse/release/tag/lofi">LOFI</a>, <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/browse/release/tag/indie">INDIE</a>, <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/browse/release/tag/pop">POP</a>, <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/browse/release/tag/alternative">ALTERNATIVE</a>, <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/browse/release/tag/aaahh">AAAHH</a>, <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/browse/release/tag/bralitz">BRALITZ</a>, <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/browse/release/tag/charming">CHARMING</a>, </p><p>License: <a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0">Creative Commons | by-nc</a></p><p>m3u: <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/20589">http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/20589</a><br />zip: <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/20589">http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/20589</a></p><p>Release page: <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Bralitz+Vol.+3/20589">http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Bralitz+Vol.+3/20589</a><br />Label page: <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/djummi-records/1638">http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/djummi-records/1638</a></p>

This was where the festival anthem “Miss You“ was created. Lost Control blends tight house beats with retro orchestra stabs and bass hits, vocal effects and deep rolling subs. Party Animal combines solid bass and a punchy kick with a slightly cheesy riff that will stick in your head all day. This album is made from accumulated disappointment in humanity. "Lixívia pró Caruncho" translates into "bleach for removing wormwood", which according to the wisdom of the older Portuguese generation, it's the easiest way to clean your walls and ceilings of all that accumulated rot that has been festering in it. Good riddance to toxic people from my life. Both the cover and audio of this album were mangled together using regurgitated samples from releases of people that betrayed my trust.<p>Tags:<a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/browse/release/tag/noise">NOISE</a>, <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/browse/release/tag/harsh%20noise">HARSH NOISE</a>, <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/browse/release/tag/white%20noise">WHITE NOISE</a>, </p><p>License: <a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0">Creative Commons | by-nc-sa</a></p><p>m3u: <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/20564">http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/m3u/20564</a><br />zip: <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/20564">http://sonicsquirrel.net/get/release/zip/20564</a></p><p>Release page: <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Go+****+Yourself/20564">http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Go+****+Yourself/20564</a><br />Label page: <a href="http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/enoughrecords/118">http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/label/enoughrecords/118</a></p> Vultos http://sonicsquirrel.net/detail/release/Vultos/20562 Mon, 02 Mar 2020 18:23:06 +0100 <h5>released on enoughrecords by Contaminado</h5><img src="http://sonicsquirrel.net/asset/image/release/20562/75" /><br /><p>released on enoughrecords by Contaminado</p>New album of Contaminado gathering some old tracks of acoustic guitar with bossa nova / blues / jazz / world fusion influences and a couple of acappella tracks reminiscent of his previous release at Enough Records.
